The accidents are more due to the slippery surface because of ice than the lack of driving skills. It surprises my why they don't use winter tyres on their cars?

You get a yellow light just before green so you can rev it up or get a head start. There are no lane markings, so you can treat it as two, three, or four lanes. Cars have the right of way over pedestrians. If you are at fault, you still don't have to pay for the other car. You go as fast as you can beteween intersections. Even babushki (grandmothers) literally RUN across the street. The police don't write tickets or come for accidents.
It is not for the weak.
- Most cars, and almost all taxis
in St. Petersburg have dents and scratches all around. If your taxi is scraped, the driver just keeps on going. It would be too dangerous to stop. Fortunately, nobody has handguns.

We're only shown crashes, not the other hours upon hours of people actually driving properly. Every case was people darting out without looking (only one guy seems to even TRY to swerve), which happens even with lights. Look at the dates, they're months apart -- meaning there were months and months of no trouble between them. These are very isolated incidents, obviously.
