After Rome had crushed the Jewish revolt of 70 AD, a small group of Jewish zealots still held out atop the mountain fortress of Masada in the desert wilderness. Nearly all of them committed suicide, rather than be captured by the Romans. The meaning of Masada, and the facts, are still disputed. This is part of a free video presenting a 1995 trip to Israel and Petra, Jordan. The video includes Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, the Galilee, Golan Heights, Nazareth, Bethlehem, Masada & the Dead Sea. Jewish, Islamic, and Christian holy places are all presented. (The movie reflects a time of optimism regarding the peace process, and the viewer should approach it from the context of 1995.)

What does Wagner to do with the Massada Odissey? Is this a kind of black humour?

    • Why Wagner

I thought that music was appropriately dramatic for the saga of Massada.

It's also associated with warfare and battles due to brilliant use in "Apocalypse Now".

Finally, I'm dissenting from efforts in Israel to ban Wagner's music based upon his disgusting anti-Semitic views and Hitler's admiration for Wagner. I do not believe in censorship.

I use a wide variety of Jewish music plus other musical sources in the complete video, "Land of Milk and Chutzpah". This is just a clip.

I do love Wagner's music, but I'm aware that many jewish people feel that Wagner equals Hitler. Let's say it's not politically correct to use Wagner pieces as background when treating an heroic saga as Masada. That's not censorship. You could use other pieces. That's my clue for your next clip.

    • No effort at political correctness

If you saw the entire film, it would be obvious how little I care for political correctness. There is content to offend plenty of people. I don't care. Being Jewish myself, but secular and non-practicing, "Land of Milk and Chutzpah" includes expression of my own opinions. Free speech and no censorship.

We're both secular and non-practicing jews. The only difference is tha I can express my oppinion freelly, but I do chose the way to hurt or not other people feelings. As I told you, there are thousand of musical pieces perfectly suited for your clip. But, we're both secular and non-practicing stuborn jewish guys, and this conversation will lead us to nowhere. Better if you were an arab, I would gladly argue with you. Bye.
