I didn't know Jerry Lewis could even play the drums, but I knew Buddy Rich could.
he a good player.I mean him(BR).JL is a legend. And he play good too.
www.legeng60s.myportal.my
Wow. He is very fast but it is easier to play just the snare and bass as oppose to the whole drumset. Even so, he is. by far, the best drummer I've ever seen when it comes to speed. He's not very melodic.
Buddy was AWESOME!!!!! Kool surprise of Jerry's ability!!!! Awesome!!!!! Buddy's technique, rolls, rhythm, SPEED, timing, arms across his body - AWESOME!!!!!! I had the great pleasure of seeing Bud play live back in the 70's... it was freezing cold outside, Bud was hunched over with severe back pain, and was fighting a bad head cold... yet it was still the most AWESOME drum performance I'd ever seen - live!!!! Watching this clip almost brought me to tears!!!!! THANK You for the GREAT clip!!!!!!!
By liljazzz 1139614883Jerry Lewis was one of the fastest draws in the busuiness .....
By golly gee 1162028637what about Ginger Baker. anybody ever hear Toad on wheels of fire? Best rock drum solo ever!
By homebody 1139578879I actually remember seeing this on TV with my dad who was a great fan of jazz & big band stuff & he introduced me to Buddy Rich & many, many more of the old greats! Loved this bit of nostalgia!
By janie 1139449103Buddy Rich was unique. His legendary abilities were recognized as early as 1920 and he began performing when he was but a toddler right up to his death in 1987. Imagine performing at that level for 67 years!! Hands down the greatest technician of the drum kit ever....EVER! There are some amazing, incredible, fantastic drummers past, present, and to come but ANYONE with the audacity to claim that they are equal in technique to Buddy Rich is delusional or they got into some of Buddy's herb. Anybody who had the pleasure of seeing Buddy live knows with out a doubt that the video was indeed real. He has long been an inspiration and he takes a rightful place along side of the greatest of all-time jazz legends.
By sendglenn 1138999431I generally visit MetaCafe looking for videos that are in the Humor category. While this one is humorous, I gave it the rating that I did ( 6 Stars ) becuase of how amazing Buddy Rich was. It is a sad commentary on American culture that we, generally, do not value our one unique contribution to the world of art ... Jazz. While in high school, many years ago, I had the honor to see Buddy Rich with his band. Impressive doesn't begin to describe it. It is a shame that the record companies have been taken over by greedy misfits who, not only know nothing about music but, have the audacity to shut out REAL musicians while foistering their wretched excuse for music upon the world!
By CrazyMoe 1135022823even better than drum solo in Iron Butterfly inagodavida probably misspelled.
By msp 1134051218I agree with you on your mention of Irom Butterfly and druming. One of the best drum solos ever recorded within a commercial song was the one done by Iron Butterfly's drummer Ron Bushy in the epic 17 minute song In-A-Gadda Da-Vida. Remarked on by just about every rock and Jazz drummer then and for the next 20 years and influenced more of them in those genre's than any other drummer other than 2 pre-rock drummers. The only other drummers with more influence and respect than Bushy was Buddy Rich, for his absolute speed, power and perfection in using the drums and Gene Krupa who pioneered and brought the drums to the forfront of music and more or less created the in song, Drum Solo now used by about every Jazz, Rock, R&B, Blues - etc, bands today. Gene gave the drums thier meaning, Buddy gave drums thier power and style and the one song by Bushy gave the drums thier soul.

Before I had listened to Buddy Play I thought that his teeth would come out, after listening I didn't even notice anything about his teeth, that was my first impression. Without a doubt he will never be bettered!
By msp 1134070520I was lucky enough to see Buddy Rich in a battle of the drums with Louie Bellson at Jazz At The Philharmonic in Minneapolis, 1957. It was totally mind blowing
By Ritchie 1133927785Words alone can't describe the legendary greatness of this fantastic drummer. One of, if not the best in drummer history. Thank you so much as I know some people who would truly appreciate this video.
By redfoxII 1133898547Thanks for putting this one on here...it brought back some great memories and my kids (teens) think he's better then most drummers today!!!
By OICU812 1133897302that's the fastest drumming I've ever seen. I'm waiting for the inevitable 'it's been edited! FAKE!' coming from flamers.
By DistantHunter 1132363719Buddy Rich was one of the best drummers ever up thruogh the 1960's. He played for 40 years and he was that good.
By Rowdycat2 1132404821Buddy Rich will always be known as one of the greats if not the greatest drummer ever !!
By madonnastwat 1132025210he always plays the "silly" part and gets a laugh every time.
By Aussie_Vixen58 1131961060My brother's boss he's a multi millionare and my bro told me that His Boss owns 2 of BUDDyies drum sets he said that each cost around $30,000 actual drums that buddy played on pretty kool eeeg?
By Anti Greengo 1142482523You claim to have a drum 'SET' not a drum KIT .......and you are better!! nuf said.
By mcfc 1134161702I have a drum set all those things i can do the same or maybe better it depends on my concentration
By Edwyn 1134007078aren't you famous, rich and well known?
How come you don't have videos and whords of fans?
I mean, a video isn't hard to make, and if you can drum that well you probably could make some money off of it, which means you could buy a video camera, set it up, and drum away and then prove you can do it just as good or better.
But for now, you can go and [expletive deleted] Buddy Rich's [expletive deleted]
