a better and more effective way to really get their attention is say: im going to hypnotize you into a state were wen i say stop the bottom card will be.... whatever on you looked at. this has an even better effect

if you can spot the bottom card secretly without the audience seeing you or the card (which is actually quite easy and there are several ways to do it), this trick can be extremely effective.

but you shuffled and cut the deck in a very slow and odd manner which totally gave away that you are looking at the bottom card. a magic trick should look like everything is normal, sleights should be undetectable. this trick can stun a person 2 or 3 times if done perfectly but if they see you spot that bottom card the trick is incredibly obvious to even the most dimwitted individual
