Pilots can be crazy mofos
Those are what is called extreme cross wind landings. Very good.
By ruffnredy 1172591492Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the (i think) 737 at the beginning doing some dutch-roll testing? (OBV. YD disconnect.)
By bcubed72 1178850460Good pilots showing they can handle the cross wind and land safely.
By computermech 1179193897Although it looks wild, this is actually quite safe. The technique is called "slipping", and it's taught in basic flight school. It is a safe way of making an approach in a strong crosswind. You "crab" into the wind, keeping the flight path on the runway centereline, while the nose of the aircraft is pointing into the wind, more or less. At the last second before touchdown, you apply rudder to bring the nose onto the centerline.
By efrancis19 1172673991I got those when I was stationed in Korea. But seriously can you image what the people on the flight are thinking. Like aren't we supposed to be parallel with the run way
By wambs8 1179109934We will be shortly arriving on runway 24, 25 and 26. Although we would normally switch off the smoking sign, if you got 'em, smoke 'em. And if anyone is currently in the lavatory, my advice for the next 30 seconds is "stay there". Thank you for flying Buddy Holly airlines and I expect to see you all real soon. In hell ....
By marcus_laz 117469522890% of this video shows very good pilot judgement. They are coming in, the wind doesn't blow their way and they "go around". You should never try and force a landing when you can go around. The 747 idiot pilot near the end, makes a lot of mistakes at the old Hong Kong airport and actually damageds his plane. The fighter jet after that looks bad too. All the bad ones are right near the end there.
The brownish looking ones are actually Boeing testing extreme crosswinds on (I think) the 777. The plane says Boeing.
..of landings, really shows the skill of the pilots!
By goodlookingsod 1172595366Yeah but what type of slip are they using for cross wind landing, a side slip or foward slip? And if all these pilots are so skilled at slipping an aircraft how come most of them are going around?
By DJ_Oliver 1179958941Well put together! 5 stars! I can't understand the words, but I like the music! keep 'em coming.
By ganzook 1179382070and its our stomaches they F**k being inside their
man i hate it when they do that S**t
This is not all due to high winds, but in order for a pilot to decrease altitude and speed fast the pilot "slips" the plane sideways to counteract the conditions
By sneakygreeky9 1178575117I realy liked it. I love to fly, but for now, I am to young to fly with real planes, so I fly in Flight Simulator. I want more videos like this one. Have a nice day...
By matjako_Slovenia 11782798642 winds
If people were to fly like that on purpose, they would not have there flying license in the first place.
What is it people have with us pilots?
simple crabbing maneuver. MOst airport are designed to "flow" with the air currents found in the are which is why runways arent always aligned with whatever they are around. Those are so nasty crosswinds though wouldnt want to be those pilots
By Drungod09 1177580814it is common that planes fly not line stright but in an angle when going on high air flow and people don´t realize it..
By BlowUrMind 1177039663We call it 'tracking' into the wind. If wind is coming at you from the side it will blow you off the straight course you're on. The plane needs to poit into the wind to compensate. And yes, the song rocks!
By seanpcurto 1177829903nice video but wtf's up with that song bet osama signs it when hes taking a S**t ! lol
By surfer21 1176238724If I ever had to listen to the song again..... I think I'd rather have my fingernails burned off. Slowly. It was torture.
By stoogeriffic 11767664221. There's a reason those guys are airline pilots - they kick some serious avionic ass.
2. Landing gear stands up to some crazy hits!
of those airplanes. willington (new zealand that is) airport is lots of fun to land in. but the video was takin in a calm day in willington. KIWI pilots rule :)
By Dune_king 1172715376It's in french, the song is called Lambe An Dro and it's from a rock band named Matmatah.
By chummy95 1172708029nice pilots, landing an airplane with lateral wind its not easy. great
By FJMC 1172584099Awesome! That 747 got my heart going. Used to watch them in Seattle. MONSTERS.
By rwperkinsjr 1179461003I don't think these are stunts, maybe it's a way to brake faster.
By Yur_Art 1172667837reduce your airspeed and altitude at the same time as it basically uses the fuselage of the aircraft as a giant airbrake... Good for when you are high on approach. I mean high as in altitude, not from drugs. :)
By CaptainXanax 1175933551A friend of mine who is a pilot says that he doesn't get paid to fly planes per se---he's paid for those moments when 200 people's lives depend on his years of experience.
By elquemataranas 1175892321. . . and I think it takes a person with pilot training to recognize the expertise necessary to do the things shown in this video.
Also, I found the soundtrack song pretty entertaining, and I would like to know who performs it and what it's called. I'm pretty sure it's sung in French. Interesting that it has that fiddle stuff in it, making it sound Irish. I like it. It's better than the crap that a lot of new American bands are making.
my dad is in the airforce and we live near alotta pilots, they say landing is more of a controlled crash...and i dont blame 'em ive landed a plane once....ITS SOO STRESSFULL!!!
By mimiro2000 1176187550This is really a great music what is it ? how can I find it as mp3 or whatever ? :)
By detailp 1173685851Is everyone a pilot on Metacafe when we see these?
Stop, posting about how bad or good a landing is..
Its sad.
when a plane that huge as 747 starts the final approach it is almost impossible to make any other moves instead of landing :) great aircraft control from great talented pilots at cross winds
By RODHA 1172672985I used to practice doing exactly this on purpose when taking my PPL. It's not as difficult as it looks. Think I was 15 when I first did it. Used to do it just for fun. It's especially good fun in gliders. Slipstreaming.
By shearers a legend 1172666665Alot of those were from a certain strip (can't remember the name of it) where they routinely do crosswind landing tests, due to the prevalent and strong crosswinds there...
And yes, the Kai Tak footage is always hair-raising...good thing they shut that one down...
Clearly a few of these guys were dealing with strong cross winds and over compensated until the last possible moment, earning serious Brass ones but the other crazy MF ers weren't quite up to par on the training, or maybe passed out after one too many layover cocktails at the Captains Quarters! Cool video though!
