  • How to fall

How to fall safely is the first thing that you need to learn.

  • Not good in a street fight?

A friend of mine who is a 3rd dan in aikido was attacked by 3 guys, one of whom had a knife. Aikido saved his life as the guy with the knife ended up stabbing his mate. Those of you who doubt how good aikido is in street fighting should go to their nearest aikido dojo, identify who is a blackbelt, and wait for them to leave. Attack them using any technique that you know (try your psychic abilities you dreamers) and when they're breaking your arm, beg for forgiveness and join up to learn something instead of talking out your a$$!

  • Double Reality Check

If you have ever been on the receiving end of an aikido move? Then how can you comment? My suggestion is to go and get some experience and then comment again. Till then you would never know.

  • Reality check,

Yeah, but I wouldn't emphasize too hard on wanting to ground fight on the street. With the asphalt, broken glass and multiple assailants attacking you (most prob with weapons), it's best to get on your feet as quick as possible to have a chance of ever getting up again.

    • Different arts for different attacks

MMA is set up against someone in a cage/ring at a certain time/place.

Aikido, and self defense arts in general, are more useful for when the defender DOES NOT wish to be near his attacker. Such as if a person should happen to find themselves the victim of a mugging, than MMA.
If my attacker has a knife, MMA with it's ring mentality can get me killed, Aikido with it's avoidance mentality and disarms, can make sure I walk home that night.

    • This has nothing on Brazilian jujitsu

I understand perfectly well, that is martial arts in intended for self defence. My problem with this demonstration is that the "attackers" fight so unconventual. Most martial arts does not teach how to ground fight, considering that 90% of fights end up on the ground.
