I thought my golf was fast!
I've got a MkIV R32 standard, its fast.... but this MkI has some serious mods under the bonnet, A HUGE turbo by the sounds maybe a Modified 1.8 20v but don't know, MI golf are light cars and the same 1.8engine block has been used on all the gti's up to theMIV so its very fiesable that its the original block still.
AWESOME CAR WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A GO!!!!!! Looks pretty mint to.

But you should improve your speed shifting. I dont know if your clutch handle like hell but for what we can see in the video: yuk! You need to improve befotre you break your clutch.
