- If you had studied elephants,
you'd have known that they live in matriarchial family groups, and that young males are expelled from that group when they reach sexual maturity. They then become solitary males or live in small groups of male elephants. Male elephants will fight to get to mate with a female, and only the strongest and biggest alpha male will be accepted by a female on heat, leaving out all the other males who also have strong natural sexual urges. Hence this unusual but quite natural scene.

Rhinos have notoriously bad eyesight, so an animal which has more or less the right size and colour and whose genitalia match in size those of a rhino will easily be mistaken for another rhino.
