  • Lukey

Well the World trade Centre was a really lukey event that it colaps the way it did, streight into itlsefe. In order to demoliton a tall building, you need to set explosives at times intervals. That means blow the top first, then the midsection(s) second and then the bottome or vice versa. So you prevent the tumbling over. It all takes a very good Structual Engineer and explosive Tech to do that. You have to know the exact statics of the building and the force required to punch through the mayor load bering members.
So if you ever had to take down a Skey Scraper in the midle of a big city, the safest way would be in a reverse order. Just core it out, take pannelings off until you have reduced it to a safe hight and then giver her....

  • erm i agree with Queltor

its not the most dangerous job in the world - i think being a stuntman is far more dangerous. Being a war news correspondant is way more dangerous, being on the frontline during a war is way more dangerous. Being a professional Boxer is way more dangerous - erm shall i continue

  • A big question for Building Demolition

I've seen these videos of building demolition for many years on TV. You'll notice that they are all relatively short to medium height buildings. So when they are toppled, they usually do not crush neighboring buildings across the street. Alot of precision timing of explosives places all around the building has to be done. My question is this. What if they, one day, need to topple a skyscraper....a VERY tall skyscraper in New York City, where the buildings are all placed very close together: often not more than 100 ft across the street?

The 9-11 terrorism shows when two buildings 1,365 feet tall are toppled, it causes massive damage all around, but obviously this was not a "controlled" demolition. What if for example, say, 75 years from now, they need to tear down the Empire State Building in NYC. How do they do it without ripping every other building nearby??

  • Shows like that are just lame

"The most dangerous job in the world!" No. It isn't. How many people in that line of work have died in the past 50 years? Zero? One? With the training and safety measures required, it remarkably safe. I wonder if Spike TV ever showed this after 2001. The guy makes such a big deal of taking down "the tallest building" at 400 something feet. Now he looks like a boob making it seem like that's a big deal. Gravity does the work, not him.
