  • My feelings to a point.

I like you hate religion and the personified god that every religion seems to want to preject; however, I do believe that there is a consciousness to what goes on. An order in the chaos, if you will, but not something we need to rely on for our existance and to help us out of difficulty. It is more important to understand that we are a part of our environment and are subject to the natural system that surrounds us. We are not superior, but more subordinate, because we lack the understanding to allow ourselves to become part of the greater whole without trying to control and manipulate it to our liking.

    • Well said, dkmeek

I've had a number of psychic experiences which have convinced me personally that our thoughts have substance, and that our consciousness is actually independant of our biological "vehicle" du jour... and that everything is interconnected by virtue of a sort of aggregate consciousness and intelligence.

I've made quite a study of near-death experiences, out of body experiences, and children who remember past lives. There is far more convincing factual evidence for the ongoing survival of consciousness than for ANY religious dogma. The University of Virginia has an entire department devoted to these studies.

  • Benevolent God?

Really, your argument has no basis whatsoever. If animals didn't eat other animals the world would be full of rotting corpses because silly people like you think meat eating is wrong.
We have a prince in this country who 'talks' to plants, heaven help us when his mum dies.
Most plants depend upon being eaten or cut in order to reproduce - look at the number of seeds that need to be eaten before they can germinate.
Instead of sitting there, having a go at a god (who may or may not exist) take a little time to do some research, form a better argument. Your argument is neither 'pithy' or well reasoned.
The whole world depends upon the consumption of one species by another.
Have a look at the herbivores, have you ever wondered why you don't see any diseased or crippled members of the herd? Because nature or god provides predators and raptors which take up little time in culling the herds of these weak members. Therefore it is a case of the greatest good for the greatest number and everyone benefits.
    RESEARCH not Rhetoric!

  • You're right.

It is necessary to kill and eat other living things in order to sustain our own lives, so I wish we would do it with more respect. I hate factory farming, and I will not eat any meat that is not free-range and organic now.

I was a vegan for awhile, but every time I watched some nature program, I asked myself, "Don't the other animals eat meat, and kill?" and don't they stalk and kill each animal they eat rather than keeping them all confined in pitiful, crowded conditions until they're slaughtered ... never having known a natural life for even a moment?

I can't change the world ... but I can change my own little environment one day at a time.

In my general readings and research, I've yet to come across any study which states what you claim to be true about plants responding to malevolent thoughts. I'd love to see some peer-reviewed research on the topic which supports your claims, as it is definitely an interesting topic.
Ah, and to stem the flow of flames that my post is likely to get: yes, I did see the MythBusters episode where they tried the plant/polygraph experiment to no avail, and yes I understand it is not to be taken as scientific fact. I've come across quite a few documents, however, which counter your claims, and would like to know if there is any scientific evidence of what you say. Thanks.

  • You make an excellent point- 5 STARS.

Bear in mind that the offended masses of religious addicts will contribute most of the votes here. After all, you are trying to tug their little pacifiers out of their nervous little mouths... and they WILL scream and throw tantrums! I absolutely LOVE the way you reposte' and skewer them all with your rapier wit. I may return here periodically just to appreciate your entertaining replies!
