  • =)

jkd is practically bruce lee's MMA as he learned and studied many forms of other MAs and then created his own. In other words he took the good points of every martial art and merged them to be what the art is today. Its great but those kicks originated from kyokushinkai karate, not jkd. couldnt they actually give credit to the japanese arts instead of changing it totally.. =/

This movie is called "Fighter in the Wind" and traces back the life of Mas Oyama, founder of the Kyokushin karate style. This movie is awesome and recommended.

  • Good film but...

When you study about Kyokushin History and Oyama`s life. you understand that there is great mistakes in the film. Thet don`t even say the name of Gichin Funakoshi or Gogen Yamaguchi. If the man called Choi Baedal (The supossed Oyama`s korean name) learned Tae Kyon and just Tae Kyon... Why is wearing a karategui and fighting with japanese techniques? All right, the film is korean but don`t take away the credits of the japanese styles. Oyama Masatatsu is the founder of Kyokushinkaykan Karate, but it was after learn, koreans, japanese and even chinese styles. Osu!!!!!

    • I agree

yea it was Tae Kyun and I know it was because it is korean history. Choi Baedal is korean and my dad said he learned the ancient form of Tae Kyun. yes thats his name. Tae Kyun can be argued that is was from china or japan but the koreans first used it.

    • It's a movie. Not a documentary.

      Masatatsu? You mean Masutatsu?

He actually learned from a Korean man who lived in Japan who practiced Chinese and Korean arts. He then commenced to learn Japanese arts and trained with a copy of the novel Musashi in the mountains (it clearly shows it in the film). It is only natural that he would be wearing karategui- he lived in Japan no doubt and couldn't possibly wear dobok even if he had wanted to. Furthermore, if you go back in time, you'd realize that karategui is no more than what the Chinese used to wear before the many pre-Karate and Karate strains existed. Pre-TKD outfits used to look like modern karategui as well. The deluxe collectors edition of the DVD came wrapped in the frayed karategui no less, not the modern dobok.

There wasn't an intention to discredit anything, it's a movie that is based on his feats, what made him a legend- not a documentary. Choi Bae Dal was the name that the Koreans called him while he was in Japan. He was born with the name of Choi Yong Ee.

      You should study more. ;)

    • Movie and about his true story

His korean name is Choi Baedal and his Japanese citizen name was Masutatsu Oyama. He was born in Choi Yeong-eu( in Korea) and moved to Japan. He defeated 270 different people mostly with one hit and less than 3 mins. He learned Tae-Kyun an ancient korean martial art called the ( empty hand martial art). Iam pretty damn sure he didn't learn ancient form of karate and he learned "TAE KYUN". He is a japanese hero but of course more a "KOREAN HERO" becuase he was korean and he defeated all the Japanese dojo's and anyone who challenged him. Iam korean as well and my father told me he is a real life person, which I couldn't believe until I saw that movie and real life videos of him fighting oxes. From what I know Tae Kyun is one of the most powerful martial arts and it is not known in America unlike Kung-fu,Karate and Tae Kwon Do,etc.. No disrespect to any Japanese, but they were the most ruthless and cruel at that time and treated Korean's like there were stray dogs basically like dog S**t He is a legend in korea and a past-time hero. He is the one who saved the koreans from war-times and cruelty. He didn't fight for revenge or to prove he was the best, but fought because he didn't like losing and he didn't want to die fighting, so he wanted to become what his master wanted to become a fighter who fights for good. Choi Baedal is probably the most known real fighter in Korean and probably in Japan and China.

    • Actually

He did learn Taekkyon, but he also studied Kempo, Goju-Ryu Karate-do, and Shottokan Karate-do, as well as some Jujutsu.
And he would rather have died fighting, than live life as a cripple.
