This is the last wave from the movie 'Billabong Oddissey' it is in Jaws in big wave surfing contests.He got a 10 an won the contest ahed of the brasilians.

I think this is Jaws wave at Maui...but i'm not completely sure about.
This cut has been extracted from a Billabong DVD...i don't remember the name...something like..."seaching the biggest waves"???
But...you know...this is amazing!

a lot of times (most of the time) these shots come from small low flying helicopters you can see that when the wave begins to break by how high it is. the audio was either put in later or the sound of the chopper was taken out (can be done). If you call this fake your a farking moron.

Tidal waves are completely different from waves like this they don't break the same and are impossible to surf becuase they are created in a completely different way. In a 'tidal' wave the entire column of water is moving (not technically moving but the particles are bouncing against eachother, like a slinky does when you stretch it out and compress part of it and left it go). In these type of waves technically only the surface of the water is moving.

Easy way to understand
tidal wave:created by movement on the ocean floor i.e. earthquake

this kind of wave: created by movement on top of the water. i.e. trade winds, storms, jet streams etc.

just imagine being underneth that wave

i have the dvd this clip was taken from.. and he lives. if you see the whole clip at the end he seems ta be swallowed by the giant but a few seconds go by and the he comes out standing straight up. the clip is amazing, but the fact that they caught it on film during the shoot of a movie is unreal. no special fx were used in the movie, and you cannot plan that at all trust me

...and "Jaws" does break with waves like this and there are a "lot" of people that surf them. You can drive out and watch them. They're real and this wasn't just a stunt. It is pretty awe-inspiring to watch!

You need to check out the movie "Chasing Giants." Its a documentary about the history of surfing.. and the quest for the biggest wave. The movie ends with this technique of towing the surfer into the wave with a jetski. The reason they do this is because in order to "catch" a wave you have to already be moving close to its speed.. or else it passes you by. This discovery allowed surfers to catch waves of this magnitude.. If you love this clip you definitely have to check out the movie!!

Yeah its JAWS in Maui, I watched the action from the cliff top with the TV crews for about 1 hour. MASSIVE F**** waves those guys were little specs on it, CRAZY chop that went for hundreds of yards, never seen waves that big ever. And yes it was a Chopper taking the shots or possible the dude beside me with his $500,000 camera gear and crew. Wicked day.
