My tiel's wings were not clipped and he flew off my shoulder when startled by our dogs' barking. He was gone, we did not hear or see him and we assumed he was dead by way of predators or bad weather. 19 days later he was on the news on the shoulder of an EMS supervisor. He was chased by crows into the open doors of the ambulance bay 32 kms away. We were lucky to get him back and I clipped his wings as soon he was home again. We now have 3 tiels (we replaced him for our female who was depressed by her loss) and they all have their wings clipped. We liked to watch them fly around the house, too but we were devastated when we lost Mojo and we don't want to go through that again. Clipped wings is a much safer, secure way for them and us. You can verify my story at Grande Prairie Herald Tribune July 28, we made the front page.
By smartjava 1250104592that is not anywhere close the same as cutting a cockatiels wings.........cutting a cockatiels wings is to keep them from flying into things so they dont hurt themselves........have u ever seen a bird try to fly through a closed window? or if u have a new bird.....they are not familiar with the surroundings and crash into things.
By westsidechick 1229364695I clipped my Lucille's wings once and she wouldn't speak to me for about a week...luckily for me I don't have to clip them because she thinks I am her mate and can't stand to be seperated or out of sight from me for a second...I walk all around my garden with her and she will have a little fly about and be nosey but she won't go too far and is straight back onto my shoulder...
By Boshyy 1211672205would u cut the fins off a fish? birds fly! thats why they r so beautyful, dont open doors when there out of the cage!!! losers
By banksy808 1177972888MEOW!! HMM.. MY WORK IS EASY NOW.I AM COMING..TO CATCH UR BIRD...MMM ..
By fuzzy chick 1176361213U don't know anything about births an how they fly, I'll bet you this: Don't feed them for 3-4 days and let the door open, you will see whether they are able to fly or not after your "procedure"...
