I've read a study done on this type of thing. When people stare at something, such as a flashing cop car, there's a nature tendency to steer into the object you are watching. Some department actually now ask their officers to shup off the light while parked on side of highway.

For the same reason, when you are crashing, do NOT stare at the whatever you are about to crashing into.

i hope the police man live ok and the dumb on the fault car was not.
a similar accident happen to me when the driver in front of me lock litteraly is brake and i ram him. he was afraid of the cop because his licence was suspended. enven if is was driving below the max speed limit. he was lucky the cop was soo close afterall because i was beatting the life out of him. My wife and my two children's was Injured because of this moron. Went a saw blood on my family and the poor excuse of this confuse man, i black out. >:-<

I'm a police officer from Ohio and watched this video during a traffic crash school. If you watch the video at the 18-20 second mark, the trooper stops and adjusts his duty belt for whatever reason. According to a few troopers that showed this video, it was a habit of this trooper to stop at the rear of a vehicle and adjust his duty belt/ or make sure he's all tucked in, or whatever. I guess he always caught flak over it, but it turned out that those two extra seconds saved his life. Interesting...

Things like this is probably why we now have the law that you have to slwo down 20 mph under the speed limit and change lanes when there's a cop pulled over..

so there is a full lane between. I always try to do this and I get so many stares. but at 60 mph it doesn't take much to go wrong before its really wrong. so easy to do. its like common courtesy isn't common. and it might save your life.

I don't understand why there are cars/drivers which craches when a policecar stands still beside the road/highway! You see that so often. Do they get nervous when they see a policecar?????? Something to hide?????

He must have heard it coming right at the last second that made him turn around. If he was faster getting out of the car he would have been killed.
