Train Smashes Into A Truck

  • ok....

first of all,..... how do TWO cameras just happen to be perfectly positioned for what is usually a "unplanned" and "happens pretty fast when they DO happen" kind of event? doesn't this strike ANYONE as a little funny? secondly, what the hell kind of "cold-war russian frontier crossing arm" are we talking about here?? i went back and listened real carefully. at no point do they say that the truck was STALLED on the tracks. so what kind of pansy ass trucker just sits there and lets these "ferocious" crossing arms dictate his trucks fate? most most 15 yr.old boys on their bikes can push against these guard rails and have them give way. so what's the trucks problem?

There is a railfan website that streams that crossing grade.
      I don't recall the URL.

    • Good point

There is no way that 2 cameras would be perfectly positioned to catch this incident. Probably a publicity stunt by the news agency or the trucking company.

    • an explanation

the barriers go down a long time before the train passes through. this is so that if a vehicle gets stuck on the tracks between the barriers for whatever reason, there's time to get to safety. This could be why there are 2 cameras set up on it by the time it hits. Either that or they're like CCTV or some other type of official camera set up for the crossing.

I doubt it's fake if it was onthe news, unless it was 1st of april.

    • these are old design crossings

I've seen many of these crossings where there isnt enough room for a tractor/trailer to wait for the redlight to change, besides...the train had to be moving about 70 mph. I'm not making excuses for the driver, but i was an OTR driver for a year and you drive all over the country and these crossings are a trap for truck drivers. California is especially bad.

    • ok, thanks....

i hear you here, (i think),and can understand how there can be tight situations for big rigs sometimes. not sure what you mean about not enough room but if i suppose for example that there's a crossstreet situated too closely, maybe that's it, or? still, i stand by my comments regarding cameras and would also like to say that, different as just "any old driver" truckers are professionals, or SHOULD be. And as such, one would expect them to be follow the rules especially carefully when near these kind of situations (if not at other times as well!) and to be able to judge whether they can safely make it across or have to just say 'S**t ' and wait for the train. it happens to us all,... sometimes we beat that light or crossing guard, sometimes we don't. is it worth it? ask the guy here!

    • Spot on

Truck stuck on crossing for a while is sure to attract attention and with all those traffic cams and cell phone cams it's very likely that such footage is not that hard to come by. For those who remain skeptical just check the NTSB site for Amtrak incident in Oxnard, CA

    • not a setup

I have seen this video before on another site which showed the accident as aired by a different station. The first camera is a crossing camera, which are placed at many train-crossings. The second piece of footage was shot by a man who was trying to prove that the crossing was dangerous, and had been filming for days prior to the collision. This is not a setup.

  • Why the fact was not presented in news

that driver was a SHE. Observer carefully how the news has been modified so they never have to mention HE or SHE.
If u find on metacafe another footage from a person recording from within her car, a bit after the crash had happened and driver comes out of the perfectly untouched compartment, comments "ow my god! she should be dead"

  • I live here in California and..

this intersection had the cameras set up by a guy, another truck driver, who had experienced the same thing and was in a pending lawsuit with the city of Oxnard for having un-synched lights causing many traffic tickets and accidents. This was not a set up. It was happenstance that he was there filming while this happened.

  • This was real and not a set up

When I first heard this story they had said there was a concerned person there taping the traffic. He had been taping that crossing for a few days prior to this. He was trying to tell the public officials that the RR crossing was dangerous. He had placed 2 cameras on either side of the track. This is not the first time someone was stopped at a light and got clobbered. Afew years back not far from Chicago a School Bus had the same thing happen. The train hit the bus so hard it seperated the body from the frame. The US DOT as well as the State DOT's have to do something to correct this. Most major insurance companies that insure commercial vehicals show this tape as part of training classes as what to do and what not to do.

  • This is why

you are not supposed to enter the crossing unless there is enough room to clear it. S**ks to be the driver.

  • CCTV CAMERAS

THE CAMERAS MUST BE CCTV AT A GARAGE OR SUMMIN

  • Why

would anyone want to fake a thing like that? It seems real to me. Can't imagine TV reporting it unless it was real.

  • duh

i just saw that on the murray show. the first cam was a guy who was trying to prove how dangerous the intersection was a the second was a traffic cam. the driver didnt see the crossing guard thingy fall and stopped at the red light. he had no clue that there was a train coming til it hit him.

  • truck accident

There was a rumor that this was a set-up, hence the truck driver being charged. I saw this on MSN video some months ago, too. I think it's a set-up job. The truck wasn't moving at the time. And two cameras also make this a bit fishy. You say that there are cameras for this sort of thing. Maybe, but I still think it's a set-up

  • WOW I REMEMBER THAT

  • Take another look....

If you watch where the train hits the trailer on the first camera shot, it's in the middle of the trailer (close to the tractor). But on the second camera shot from across the intersection, the train just catches the back end of the trailer. Looks to be 2 different clips and 2 different intersections (but the same kind of train). Also, look at the crossing sign on pole in the close up video vs the one from across the intersection.

  • crazy

i think most crossroads have camera systems set up for those situations. Very lucky that the driver is alive.
