I truly believe that people brought up on stage want to believe it will work. I have tried twice at our local comedy club to be hypnotized and once at an office to help me try and quit smoking, all of which didn't work! I did as the hypnotist said but after a long time of doing what he said, realized that nothing was happening other then I was sitting relaxed which I can do back at my table just as well. I think people go along with it hoping to be going under hypnosis if they stay and then after a certain amount of time feel to embarrassed to get up and walk back to their table in fear that people will say, "if he/she wasn't hypnotized, then why did he/she stay up there as long as they did". People will do many things to not be embarrassed. I do believe hypnosis works but not in the majority of the cases up on stage. It's a very interesting subject though and I would like to understand it better! What do you think?

Hypnosis cannot cure smoking as the addiction is a physical crave, not suggestion. Further, smokers really don't want to quit, they just know they need to. So hypnosis failed with you as it does with all Stop Smoking uses. You are right that people have to want to please the hypnotist, crowd and themselves.

Bite it. I've been to the Sailesh show twice and hung out with him on numerous occasions. All of his shows are 100% volunteer. When he puts someone under you can definately tell there is nothin goin on up in their minds. If you look at their eyes it's just a glaze. No life behind them. Hypnosis like this is scary as hell, but 100% Real. Until you have sat at one of his shows you have no room to speak, so shut it.

This is 100% authentic whether you want to believe it or not. A man just like this came to my campus and did this sort of thing, and NO they do NOT remember what has occured. There are different levels of hypnosis and at the deepest level you will not remember a thing. A good friend of mine went on stage and made a total ass of himself, not remembering a thing. Some people will need to see it to believe it but trust me, it is real.

yeah, err... im a med student and I personally know a hypnotherapist. He told me all about this. Basically... hypnosis can't make you do anything you woudlnt normally do, such as humping furnature in public. It doesn't just go on and off instantly at the click of your fingers. It comes on slowly and gradually wears off over a matter of minutes or hours.
Hypnotherapy's good for treating compulsive behaviour if you have lots of sessions, but stage hypnotism is all planned and the subjects are just going along with it.

In group hypnosis, it is most common for the hypnotist to work with the group together before the start of the show. This allows the hypnotist time to make sure that he has fully hypnotized each subject and deapen the effect. Hypnosis has nothing to do with having a week or strong mind, it is the power of suggestion deap into the subconscious. It is impossible for a hypnotist to make a person go against his or her subconsciously grounded moral beliefs because of this being only suggestion. The hypnotist, however, has removed the inhibitions and suggested a fun and interesting activity for the enjoyment of the audience (and probably the subjects when they see a tape! :-) ), not to be cruel or offensive to those involved.
