It looks like a high grade fishing wire. He's a skinny guy so its probably nothing to support his weight. Probably has a cut in the sweater so it doesn't bunch up

david copperfield is great at what he does...but i found this old and stupid. look how many lights, and ceilings, and things that are surrounding him, theres obviously some kind of strings attached to him, only a 2 year old could figure that out. yeah its an illusion and its necessarily suppose to be real...but it was poorly made and a very stupid setting. Criss Angel levitated himself, on the streets. i dont think theres a ceiling in the air? even if he did have strings attached to himself, it seems 10 times more real than this clip, because hes simply in the middle of a street or sidewalk.

People going to a David Copperfield show expecting to see real magic are about as dumb as the people who go to a WWF match expecting to see a real fight.

It is a staged performance, that is just what it is. If you can figure out a way to fly through the arches and make it look believable then you can have your own show too.

I think he has great stage presence - though he does get a bit sappy.

Of course at the beginning he is on a piece of glass that is no secret. And humans don't float - that is no secret either. You can see from his center of balance that he is attached to wires at the hip. He could only pull this off in a controlled staged environment. But it took a couple seconds for me to figure out what he was doing, and therein lies the fun. Some people have fun just not knowing and being impressed. I think it is fun to try to figure out how he did it.

He did an awesome job trying to prove he is not attached to wires but the hoops never cross the vertical plane from his hips. The first hoops are cleverly spun so it looks like they went all the way around, the second set were spun behind and in front with the correct angles to give the impression that they were spinning all the way around him. The box is a good one. My best guess is that the lid does not cover all the way. The wires would have to be running in on angles, because when they lift the lid there is no distortion in his movement like there would be if a change of angles occurred when the cables became un-pinched.

It's a trick yes but what a trick. And all of you who think you know how he does it, just try and do it, strings will not allow you to move like that, when he flips over and such he would get tangled. Sure there is a trick but when you look at a magic show you need to suspend reality in order to enjoy it. And Look at Chris Angle and David blaine who levitate out side, there's a trick to that to but i'll be damned if i can figure it out (it's on tv so there is probably a trick to that) David Copperfeild has also flown outside, not just levetated.

wanna say about the 2 circle he's been through. A really good trick, the 2 circle did not pass him directly, it rotate half a round that would confuse the audiences and make them think there is nothing around him, while the 2 circle actually left the part directly above him. Very intelligent! Reach 2 goals!

Honestly, must you complain about every little thing? If you're not interested in watching the illusions, yes illusions; well, don't watch. It's entertainment! What part don't you understand? David Copperfield is one of the best, if not the best in his field and he never ceases to entertain. Okay, maybe you have figured it out or maybe you haven't. That's a whatever!

if there is much more simpler techniques to do such very hard moves like flying in the air and cut himself into to pieces and stay in more than 1000 degree oven why hollywood dont get use of such things to make a movie like lord of the rings become more real and tooo much cheaper?... why we never saw how any of these impossible moves can be done using tricks.. tricks done through computer will only be available throw movies but not in real.... in the end i believe there is magic and the magic is evil thing but these guys use it also for fun.. by the way david do the same magic in the open air in the streets... i saw movies for him doing many of his moves in the street among people

Perhaps the detractors of this video have forgotten what made this illusion successful: a word called verisimilitude - which is defined as "the truth of appearing or believing to be real." Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what magic is all about?

When I first heard about this trick on TV about 13-14 years ago, I was curious. Being a fan of the Superman films, and of the character in general, I wanted to see for myself--I wanted to believe that he could create the illusion of flight and make it look realistic ("with no wires or poles," as I recall the commercial claiming). And guess what? That night, I did. Even though I knew it was just an illusion, it left me breathless.

those of you complaining about him using strings, or its a bullshit illusion, dont kno piss from paint. You are all pissed because you cant do wat he is doing, which as a magician, is the hardest thing to do. And no he doesnt use strings, its a complex form of illusion used rarely by a magician cause there are too many ways of error. And the way he can control himself in the air, without any tantrem movements, is amazing, and as a magician myself, who specializes in the king levitation, wat copperfield is doing is impressive. Ok, we all know he is using strings to move in the air. When he enters the cage, guess what, the strings are still attached. You can pull stuff up from the outside of a cage or sealed box with strings because they are... thin and well... they are strings... so there is no problem with closing the cage because you can still move him from the outside. And yes, the rings trick is old, the rings never pass him in a perpendicular way.

I love watching all these illusions but this is the worstone I have seen so far!

First of all he is hanging on invisible strings. You can almost see the strings in the begining when the camera shoots down with copperfield looking to the "sky"
Also notice how the rings pass copperfield. At no given time is the ring crossing directly above him. The rings always go under him. I don't know how to explain this in words but notice the rings and observe this. The rings always go under him.

Obviously we know its just an illusion, but he should find a way to stop rotating about his waist, thats the only part that makes it look fake. If he was rotating randomly like astronauts in a shuttle it would look a lot more convincing.

hate to be a spoilsport but the rings simply never go right around him, they move up to the string, then, since they're large enough, rotate all the way around him back to the point of the string. imagine a clock hand moving from 11:59 round to 12:01 never touching 12:00.
