  ...good luck in getting your hands on HOPG highly oriented graphite :) it's not stuff you will find in your neighbourhood drug store :) ...for starters try advanced ceramics or similar company...where a piece like that can cost you around $200-400 !

- you can do it
  without expensive graphite but it wont hover as high off the surface. I've seen small scale versions with pencil graphite. You need to look really close to see the gap
