Li-Ion is a very volatile chemistry that is best left to the professionals. To save $50 is not worth the risk. Just read up on this summer's battery recalls where whole laptops were going up in flames due to faulty packs. I just bought a new battery at Batteries Plus and it was less than going through Apple direct.
go through all that, I just bought my Solo battery on ebay brand new for $41.50 to my door!

Just because you have the money doesn't mean you shouldn't try and save money. I'm tired of hearing people complain about kipkay making money of these videos. Think of this stuff yourself and post it then. Your watching his videos right? I'm sure it takes a lot of his time to figure this stuff out so I think he has earned it. When you start think of this stuff you can talk smack all you want, until then just enjoy the videos he makes.

It dosnt take 3 days to fix a laptop battery, it takes about 2 hours.. anyone that can say someone who actually tries to do something themselves is a loser, has big personel problems.

It's an old laptop some one just gave him not a brand new $1600 one or something. Only an idiot would spend twice the amount to fix some old OUT OF WARRENTY
As I was saying OUT OF WARRANTY for most likely a year or more laptop. Your all pissed because none of you can think up this stuff yourself.

if he had the charger the whole time, how come he just couldnt have charged the OLD battery, i was actually amazed by this, but then he charged the new one, why couldnt he have just done this the first time?
Because the old battery was not charging. You can't charge and recharge a battery forever they wear out. Please do not even try and do this trick is yourself thafireman because you would blow yourself up trying.
So a lot of people would not even be able to buy spare parts! Stupid company anyway.
i hooked up ,and all those amp's gave me a boner.
But one thing to consider. Can your charger charge the battery to the new rating? Assuming the old battery is only 600mAh and you now put in a 2300mAh, will it be able to charge till the max? Will it get too hot. To be safe, keep it to the orignal rating as possible.

but i ruined the plastic cover of my HP battery (luckily it was spoilt). You guys must be extra careful with that plastic cover, its fragile! BTW my battery contains 12 large 18650 batteries!
Not a bad deal...........but by the time you pay for gas to and from the store, and factor in how valuable your time is.....(some peoples time is more important than others) I think the 70.00 extra dollars is well spent. (Not to mention the fact that you may have to purchase a soldering iron as well).
You have a point but sometimes if you do have the time it's just fun to fix it yourself. I wouldn't try this if you don't already have a soldering iron and know how to use it. Soldering is easy but you have to get the hang of making a good joint of solder I mean although the other kind is good to learn;). So to some it up its not for the novice.

How much? just $37? soldering iron $20 eye glasses $5 battery $37 altogether $62 dont forget to count emergency use for hospital fee , old batteries' are never safe

Do you know whether your trick applies to acer or other laptops? Do all batterries look alike from inside?
I am facing the same problem with my acer battery but was a bit not sure whether to open it as I was afraid to loose my warrenty.

There's the cylindrical kind like was shown, but there are also box-like cells (called prismatic?). If the pack is shot anyways, it's at least worthwhile to have a look and determine if you're comfortable with the rebuild.

ur comment is hilarious. I do A LOT of soldering and i use a cheap 30W Iron from radio shack. Works great for me. The only draw back is I constantly have to replace the tip because they get dull real fast.
