  • Does anybody have any idea...

if these tires have been tested in wintry conditions? I kinda think you would lose the "suspension" feel when the tire fills with ice and snow. Just a thought.

    • I do...

You could make the inside wall slightly conical geting wider towards the outsides from the centre so that once the car started moving, the ice would pop out the sides from the pressure. Doh...

Rocks could get in there and get stuck, so? How about you cover the sides with a stretchy waterproof material? Umm, like rubber! Doh...

    • great innovation...

but why does it take 10-15 years to hit the market?

      • That's a replacement date estimate.

Not a release date estimate. This video is at least a year old as I read an article for these tires about a year ago at least. You have to factor in the extensive R&D process they obviously are putting into it, as well as not every consumer right away is going to buy these tires, which is where you get your 10-15 years before the tire and tires like it are a mainstay of the industry, replacing the tubeless steel bead ones we currently use.

And to the other guy, I think they've got a good idea on cross cut, seeing as how they've proved effective on small skidders, army vehicles, and ATV's, applications which see a lot of tire abuse.

    • SuPeRSuRFR - i agree one the cop thing ...

i saw a video recently of this special rubber net that is put across the road - and when a car drives over it - it brings the car, van, bus, - (doesnt matter what size of vehicle) to a controlled and quick stop. as the rubber netting is sticky, storng and gets entangled around the the front tires stopping the tires from moving full stop. So the car skids to a controlled stop. And a car travelling at 60mph can be stopped in 30 metres - and it does no permanent damage to the car either - so if the car is stolen it can be returned to the victim with less hassle. : )

      • Great idea

but you'd probably have a hard time keeping some a**hole from stealing them.

          • .

And what if a cross cut acured (a cut outside layer across the tire), I doubt that the thin vertical pieces will be able to hold the tire from felling appart on high speed and next thing you know you are driving on rims...
