But the guy didn't light it with the battery, he couldn't so he just stopped the cam, got a lighter and lighted it. :) (Thats why the sticks are moved around).

now when someone asks me for a lighter, i'll tell them "no, i only have stell wool and a 9v battery!!!"

but yea im wondering when dont matches work, like when they are wet? well same go for steel wool it wont ignite if its wet. maybe if u RUN OUT of matches and wont have any more lighter fluid and might have some steel wool and a bettery laying around :)

I have done this with flashlight batteries and it works just as well.

This is pretty old, but it's still a good trick, or it's cool to just watch the steel wool melt (be careful not to touch it, it get friggin hot!)

it will only work if your battery is DURECELL

if you can choose what to carry on you in case of getting lost or in a survival situation, i would not carry a 9volt battery and steel wool, yes it does work but a lighter is a thousand more times more practical, so i would rather carry a lighter and a small bottle of camper fuel. if you are camping, you won't have steel wool unless you actually bring some with you to try this out.

any 6 year old boy scout knows how to make a fire without matches or a lighter. maybe next time you'll should have a video of how to turn on the t.v. without a remote.at least that will be a tiny bit interesting.

i find quicker matches and a lighter that that wool and will be cheaper, i don't think most stores sell wool, i'm sure they sell matches or a lighter unless you find wool and batteries in the woods.
