    Most people don't really know what page file/virtual memory is... they are practically one in the same...
    Most computers don't have the RAM to support all the applications that they use, so the system reserves a portion of the hard drive to function as RAM overflow. The numbers you change here are for your virtual memory.

      By setting a lower number here you'll force Windows to utilize your RAM more. Eventually, however, you will begin receiving "insufficient memory" error messages because there's not enough total RAM. RAM access is much quicker than Hard Drive access, so adding RAM to the computer does in fact speed it up....

      It doesn't make the processor any faster, it just makes programs load faster because there's less interaction with the HD and more with the RAM.
