Today on this 2009 F-250 we will be installing the front hitch part number 65049. We are underneath the front of the vehicle here, and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the trailer hitch. We are actually looking at the passenger side frame rail on the outboard side and we have got a couple holes visible. If you look more forward towards the bumper side you will see a 9/ 16 size hole right there. That is going to provide our forward most attaching point for our trailer hitch. I do want to note on some of the newer model vehicles with four wheel drive. It has a bigger air dam here at the front and this air dam will need to be trimmed on those four wheel drive models. If you do need to trim the air dam just go ahead and give it a test fit and maybe take some dimension and go ahead and cut it before you get started. 00:40
As you can see I have outlined the cut out that I am going to make here in the air dam. I just went ahead and took some dimensions and kind of test fit the hitch out. Again you just want to kind of do that yourself before you get started. We will go ahead and cut that out now and put the hitch up in position. Now that we have got our air dam cut out, we can go ahead and put the hitch up in position. We will start by holding it up with the hex bolts that we are going to install here. We are going to be sliding the hex bolt and flat washer inside the frame and pushing it out that way. Once we get the hitch up attached to the hex bolts, we can go ahead and fish the carriage bolt in through the frame and out through the oblong hole where it is going to come out like this.01:21
We are going to be attaching this bolt here with the lock washer and hex nut. Now that we have got the bolts here, the end bolt in place on both sides, we can go ahead and fish our carriage bolts into place for our rear most attaching points. We will just feed it through the hole here in the hitch, then through the hole in the frame. We are just going to fish that out through the end of the frame here like so. Then we will take the carriage bolt and wrap the thread through the bolt loop of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt. Then pull it through the frame and into place. The oblong hole in the frame provides a nice square holder for the carriage head so a block is not needed inside the frame. Then we can just add the lock washer and nut onto that. We just want to do the same thing to the other side, then we can go ahead and torque our hitch down. Now with all the bolts in place we can go ahead and torque the hitch down. And that will conclude the installation of front hitch part number 65049 on this 2009 F-250.
