The drug and alcohol addiction treatment process is often split into two phases: the initial assessment/evaluation phase; the treatment implementation phase. The assessment/evaluation phase begins with the admission of the patient to the addiction treatment facility. After the patient is determined to be medically stable, unpacked and settled in, consultations and assessments with qualified psychiatrists, detox physicians, psychologists and/or therapists commences to determine and establish a comprehensive addiction treatment plan. The implementation phase of the addiction treatment process constitutes the majority of the addiction treatment period, and includes individual, small group, and family therapy, adjunctive therapies, as well as education and support groups.
