The term LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, and is the most commonly performed vision correction procedure in the United States today. The two-step process used in LASIK treatment is aimed at the reduction or complete elimination of dependence on glasses or contact lenses. LASIK is used to treat a variety of sight conditions, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism (distortion) and even presbyopia (reading glasses). With all laser LASIK, the cornea, or clear covering on the front of the eye, is permanently reshaped using an excimer (cool ultraviolet beam) laser. The process of performing LASIK, as well as certain other vision correction procedures is two-fold: first, a corneal flap is created, Blade-Free, and second, the cornea itself is reshaped.
Laser vision correction, in its many forms, has been in existence for more than a decade. Sometimes referred to as refractive surgery, laser vision correction procedures, such as the ones performed at VISO LASIK, reshape the cornea, allowing for clear vision, and reduce or eliminate the dependency on glasses or contacts. After treatment, which takes only minutes, patients are able to return to work the next day with almost perfect vision. Factors that may affect this outcome are the condition of the ocular system prior to the LASIK procedure, and age of patient.
VISO LASIK is a full-service, state of the art LASIK eye surgery and laser vision correction facility with a commitment to vision excellence. Offering laser eye surgery procedures customized to every individuals’ needs through the use of the latest modern technology available today, VISO LASIK’s team of surgeons, doctors and medical staff is interested in just one thing; improving your vision for life.
