  • huh

wat is a runaway truck ramp

By def-jam-recordings 1180281069 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • really?

Its at the end of downhill parts of fast roads. Incase trucks are unable to slow down with their heavy loads, they are forced to use runaway parts that usually have gravel or barrles of water that slow the truck down instead of having it speeding out of control at the bottom of the hill

  • I am also a truck driver

And I believe that this ramp was not designed this way, but is just severely in need of maintenance. Due to use, rain, snow, and people with ATVs probably. This is however no excuse. The DOT should be taking care of these very useful life saving devices. Even though the truck driver is automatically at fault for his equipment failure, the highway dept. should assume a certain amount of liability for the excess damage incurred by the faulty ramp(they won't though).

  • i rewatched the video

and that ramp is in no way safe. the sand will stop the truck the way it is designed to. but if you watch when they show the replay of the truck hitting it. it isnt even smooth. it is just mounds of sands. you get any out of control vehicle and it will flip on that ramp

  • It is a bad ramp

They are supposed to be made with progressively deeper sand or gravel so it slows the vehicle as it bogs deeper in it the farther into it you get...not burms of material....some road crew or engineer really messed that one up...

    • Your exactly right...

I'm a truck driver and thy're not supposed to have huge bumps! It's also a $10,000 fine if you use one because in the DOT's eyes, it's always the driver's fault. Brakes fade, he went too fast. Brakes go out, you should of inspected them.

  • look

at the grade of the ramp = setup wtf

By oh ya 1178079120 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
  • you are right.

im a truck driver. and if you use constant break pressure. they heat up and do what is called break fade. which means when you push the pedal the breaks are so soft from the heat that they wont stop you. they dont actually melt. they just wear away at a high rate.

  • Bien La !

He was driving way tooooo FAST !

  • thats the way they all are.....

the only problem with that ramp is that there were tire marks in the berms... those ramps arent made for light weight trucks like that... they are for big rigs... something light like that truck WILL flip... but if you run a heavier truck through it, it doesnt flip often... we have 3 of them on a hill, and i have seen them at work... that ramp was fine...

  • .

the whole thing was setup. the camera crew made the mounds of gravel and then set up the camera to watch the fun.

besides: private road. Dot has no jurisdiction

  • WTF !!!!!

Y should there bea ramp in the first place are the truckers that stupid not to check there trucks ....

By Alpha_Black 1178684694 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Truckers do check their vehichle

every time they use it. How often to you inspect yur car. everyday? i doubt it. A trucks breaks can go out for numerous reasons, debris on the road ripping off an airline, the above mentioned two reasons, also maybe he had to take the ramp to avoid colliding with the camera crew. Glad he is alright , it looked like a heavy load.

  • runaway truck ramp.....

they are not designed to prevent wrecks or truck brakes from failing !!!!
they are designed to mayby save the life of the truck driver in the event of
brake failure.......as you can see this one worked.

By fred101 1177994231 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Bullshit

A runaway truck ramp, when properly designed, is supposed to cause minimal damage to the truck and driver by slowly bogging it down with gravel, sand, a gradual hill, or all of the above. This was no truck ramp, it wasn't even an attempt at a truck ramp, this was a group of gravelpiles. The engineer who made\supervised this build should pay not only for the reconstruction of the ramp, but also the damage to the truck and the driver's medical bills.

      Thats some funny sh*t bro!!

By Drew91761 1177997189 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
  • exactley

that is why the ramp is there to stop it
because the brakes over heat and i believe melt (correct me if im wrong) because of the hills and mountains in Pennsylvania are to much for that kinda load
