First Swedish prosecutors wanted Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on rape and molestation charges...then they didn’t....now they do again.

WFLX has the latest.

“A Swedish prosecutor has asked for a court order to detain Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, for questioning him on suspicion of rape and sexual molestation. Assange has denied these allegations. ”

The news broke Thursday, and Assange has yet to be found for questioning, but Al Jazeera interviewed Swedish Director of Prosecutions Marianne Ny who says the detainment order is simple enough.

“The request for the arrest of Assange ... comes nearly a month after he released classified military documents about the war in Iraq … [Ny says] ‘The reason for my request is that we need to interrogate him. So far, we have not been able to meet with him...”

...but WPTV reports a different story.

“...the prosecutor now believes there is enough evidence so far to force Assange to remain in Sweden and face a potential trial. The accusation stems from his encounters with two women during an August visit to Sweden.”

However, CNN also interviewed Ny, who knows Assange is wanted for questioning. And that’s about all she seems to know.

NY: “We have very little information at the moment.”
ANCHOR: “You said there were two different incidents here. What can you tell us about the alleged victims?”
NY: “I can’t tell you anything about them because I don’t know anything about them.”
ANCHOR: “Well how are you all able to bring the charges? It sounds like there’s not much that is known right now about this.”
NY: “No, that’s very correct.”

If the case -- and timing -- sound fishy, you’re not alone. The New York Times interviewed Assange’s lawyer in Britain, who says the allegations are getting out of hand.

“‘Over the last three months, despite numerous demands, neither Mr. Assange, nor his legal counsel has received a single word in writing from the Swedish authorities relating to the allegations.’ It added that the prosecutor’s ‘behavior is not a prosecution, but a persecution.’”

What do you think of the yoyo allegations? Are authorities just mad at Wikileaks for doing what it does best... leaking information? Or do these charges possibly have some merit?
