Today on this 2005 Dodge Durango, we are going to install part number 42145 from Hoppy. This part is designed to replace the factory 7-pole connector that is already installed on the vehicle. And this would be a perfect example. As you can see here, this whole assembly has seen better days. What we are going to do is unbolt the old connector, disconnect the wiring harness and then just bolt in the new. Alright, now we are going to take our 4-pole on the side here and we are just going to move it out of the way for more working space. Now, pull out our harness. And there is a lock on the connection point right here and this red tab, we have to push that way, to unlock it. When you push down this tab right here, it should unlock and this whole assembly comes apart. 0:50

OK, we are going to take our replacement part, just push it inside for now and we will make our connections back again, like the factory. Push it together until it clicks and push the locking tab down. Now we can take our 7-pole connector, sometimes you will find that when you put the connector in, it will just go so far and stop a little bit and bind up. What is happening is that this part on the side right here is dragging on this side of the bracket right here. And that is because it has a 4-pole on the side too. And what you can do is take a small grinder and just edge out just a little bit right here, just enough room to push it together. 1:28

Let us go ahead and take everything back apart so we do not mess anything up with the grinder. OK, once we open it up, let us go ahead and reconnect everything. Now the next thing you want to consider is how to attach this to the factory bracket. The screws that come with the original connector are too short to go through this thick base here. So, the new connector does have screws that come with it, but it is not a sheet metal screw. It is a machine screw. So you either, a have to get longer sheet metal screws to go into the bracket or b just take it apart and just drill it out oversized just enough to get the bolts through and just nut and bolt everything with the machine screws. We are just going to go ahead and use the longer machine screws and just drill this out. And we will just snug down the screws. It does not have to be super tight. Put our cover back down. And we will put our original 4-pole right back on the side. We will use a zip-tie to keep everything close together and we should be good to go. That will finish for our install of part number 42145 from Hoppy on our 2005 Dodge Durango.
