Today on this 2006 Nissan Murano we are going to install part number 87448 from Hidden Hitch. This is also going to apply to Draw-Tite part number 75148. The first thing we need to do is remove the tie down hook that is located on the driver side frame rail. There are two bolts on the side and two on the bottom. Next we will go ahead and remove this exhaust hanger right here. There are four bolts, two on this side, and two on the other side. Before we go any further, we are going to run this strap around the exhaust system to keep it from falling down and damaging anything. We will unbolt our last hanger right here. :44
That was all the hangers that we needed to unbolt on the passenger side, now back on the driver side here all we have to do is slip these two rubber hangers off the hangers from the muffler. We will spray those down with some lubricant, it helps to have a wooden block to push up against. Now we can lower the strap and the exhaust to a level we can work with. Now we can show you the attachment points on the frame of the vehicle. it is going to use these three attachment points as shown here. The passenger side is going to be the same. 1:14
This vehicle has been on the road for awhile now, you can tell by the threaded holes that are open, but have some rust in there. It is a good idea to run the bolt in there first, and try to break some of the rust free. You also want to rinse it out with some lubricant and run the bolt in and out a few times. So it is pretty easy to do. At this point we can go ahead and start installing our hitch. It is a good idea to have an extra set of hands to hold it up there. We are going to install it with our bolt and conical tooth washer. It is probably easiest to start off with the bolt hole that is closest to the bumper and work your way back. Once you have all the hardware installed, move it back and fourth if you can and try to center it up as best as possible. Then we will go ahead and snug down the bolts. At this point we can torque down the bolts as specified in the instructions. 1:58
At this point we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. It will probably be a good idea to work on the driver side first, and then go back over to the passenger side. Now that we have the vehicle off the lift, lets go ahead and give you a couple measurements that will help you out when choosing accessories. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14-3/4 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is 7 inches. That will include the install for part number 87448 from Hidden Hitch on this 2006 Nissan Murano.
