Today on this 2004 Acura MDX we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118336. We are in the rear cargo area of the MDX and we want to locate the port that we are going to plugging our wiring harness into. It is located right behind the rear threshold almost on the driver side. To gain access to it we are going to remove a few things. We need to first remove the floor covering. Remove the two headrests as well. Next the rear threshold piece needs to come off. There are two inside fasteners that are holding it into position and to remove those I am just going to use a rivet removal tool. Get that in there and just pull it away. If you do not have one of these you can just use a flat head screw driver. 00:38
With those two removed we want to lift up on the lip. Gently rock it back and forth and release the clips that are holding it in on the top side. With that pulled back if you look right here you can see the port that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. It does have a cap on it currently so we want to remove that first. Look where the wires are. Just on top of that there is a little release button. Just press that in and pull away. Just take the cap and remove it. Next we will take our wiring harness and plug it in line. With those connected what I am going to do is take the cap and fastener that was holding it on to the side wall we can remove it off the cap and reuse it to hold things into place. 01:42
If you take a flat head screwdriver and slide it in underneath the red locking tab you can pop that right off. We have got a converter box built in as well. You can either adhere it to the inside here or what I am going to do is feed it through this opening which follows the wiring harness towards the driver side. There is an opening there you can store it back inside there. The 4-pole itself is going to be kept stored inside here when not in use. We can pull it out when necessary. Now we have got it in place. That is really all there is to it. If you take one of the provided zip ties if you would like and tie up some of the excess wire. From there we can put the threshold piece back on. You can leave it stored in the cargo compartment where it is out of the way. When you want to use the 4-pole you simply just pull it out of the compartment. You can bring it out the rear door and make your connection to the trailer. You can close your cargo door on it. The weather stripping will prevent the harness from being pinched.
