Best Rugby Hits

I went through the "Best Football hits" forum, and now I see this, what the hell is wrong with you people? Rugby vs Football, is like trying to compare Baseball vs Basketball. They are DIFFERENT, games! Sure, they're both contact sports but the style of game play and the techniques are completely different. I am sure that ALL of you will have to admit, that if, oh I dunno lets say if WIlliam Perry (topped out at 390 pounds in his career) went up against...jeeze, i dont even know the buffest guy you can think of in Rugby, Stood face to face, there's no question that Perry would take that rugby player DOWN. However, you take that same Rugby player, and ask him to outclass Perry, then the Rugby player would win. Rugby is a game more of passing, and cunning plays where you use misdirection to gain an advantage over your opponent. In Football, the emphasis is on yardage. To get more yards per play, Players need to bulk up and be able to withstand amazing amounts of punishment. Now, im not saying Football is a game for retards...Nor am I saying Rugby is a game for pussies, I'm just saying that both sports are great sports, but you cant say "one is for pussies one is for real men"...because they are different sports.

Not because one's better than the other, they're too different to compare. Having played both games in amateur competition I testify that both of these sports deserve great respect. NFL is one of the most strategic and hardest hitting collision sports there is. A helmet protects but it's also a weapon. League players are true warriors. Minimal pads and a full 80 mins on the field. Go the Doggies!

I am originally from South Africa but I live in America now. I love the sport of rugby but there are hardly any places you can play it in the States. I hope they try to expand it here soon.

Ok then put hu ever u got agasint Jonah lomu or martin johnson or umaga there are loads of big guys in rugby the average rugby player at under 19 level weighs over 170 pounds, sure i admit american football players are massive but its all steroids no rugby player takes steroids also rugby players are getting faster and stronger every year...

Now as for Rugby, a very tough game, no doubt, but PLEASE shut up about witch one is better, having played both, not at profesional level, I enjoy them, but they are COMPLETLY DIFFERENT.

American Football and Rugby, enjoyable games to any one who wants to beat the crap outta someone, and fun to watch, different styles, different games, different rules, and so on...

Hi. Just thought that i would explain that this video is of rugby league players not rugby. Its a clip from the nrl competition which is the top rugby league comp in the world. Rugby is fairly similar to league but i think league is more confrontational.

American Football was rugby with a slightly new set of rules to avoid some common injuries on the college level. Over time the game continued to change like the addition of helmets and more play stopage. To try to compare a football player to a rugby player is silly because at this point they really are different games. Football players without padding would get permanently injured on the first real tackle. This is because when play stops everyone lines up then comes directly at each other and collides head on one on one. Rugby on the other hand doesn't give players a chance to set up like that for every hit. Rugby players also only have a few meters to get up to speed before they try to break through the defense.
All the guys on here talking S**t about other sports are rediculous. Let a football player take you down and see how you feel in the morning. At the same time, only a few players on a football team really have to touch the ball, and they only play half the time, offense and defense, and they can be substituted if they are injured for a few minutes or just are too tired to continue. Rugby players all have to tackle, handle, ruck, get tackled and get right back up, and they play all 80 minutes with only one break at half-time and an occassional lineout. Rugby is WAY more physically demanding than football is, but all the trash talking sounds so rediculous.

for all you typically fat ass yanks who think beer-leauge recreational rugby is any indication of the level of strength, intensity or endurance required to play...that's like comparing lawn bowling to soccer.

You do not need anywhere near the same fitness level... even the least fit props are better conditioned than any of the football lineman.
There's no hestitaions is hits, no pads, no stoppage of play every goddamn minute...once the hit happens you don't just roll over and take your bleedin time to get up adjust your jock/tampon and walk back to the line where you wait another 5 minutes.
When ruggers ruck or maul its full force pushing with all the strenght you have, then back to running, tackling.
If I'm forced to take a hit open field an elite tacklers of either sport, I think I'd rather wear pads...
I've played many a high level rugby game where the opposing team was all just ex -football players...they'd end up huffing and puffing and just giving up after the first 10 minutes.... Besides most football players who actually get into playing rugby never go back to that S**t sport...

rugby is an all round hard mans sport. i am a big fan of nfl but in rugby after those guys are hit they have to get up and run back at them because the only break you get is half time. its a fight with a ball thrown in. rugby players have to run through defences then turn round and hit the huge guy running back at you no matter what size you are. then there are the handling moves, switches, dummies, chips and the old fashioned punch against people who are making like 40 tackles a game, each time he's trying to break you and youre not wearing pads.

I think this is a great video. Just half of these hits would be illegal and dont really show the technique that goes into a proper rugby tackle. otherwise a great video.

heres one bitch all the rugby hits are the same all they get hurt is there back and chest and thats still because they dont have any pads on if they did those hits would not really hurt. NFL hits are every where in the legs,back,chest some times even in the neck and they get hurt with pads if they did not have pads they would probably get killed and the point is Fuuuuuck euros

i play both american football and rugby there both great but football hurts more even though u got pads, pads dont do S**t for the person gettin hit it makes it so the person giving the hit can make a harder and better hit so F**k u all
