Hey guys, I am a Marylander, ye how boring. But I have also been to the UK many a time and hey that place is vibrant, full of life and just humour! They aren't dull people those Brits, infact it's a cool place, ofcourse different to the States yes but that is obvious, and London is a fantastic place, ye the odd asshole like everywhere, but it's great like all of Western Europa but I would clearly rate Britain the best, all kind and cool, nothing to woory about people, besides that Granny sounded Scottish, lol! as much as I agree with you, I live in south London and its a shithole, but that's only cos of all the lil kids with knives trying to act like new york gangbangers. So long as you stay away from southlondon or big city centres, it's a great place to be (if you like cloudy days and rain it helps)

I'm not saying you love your government, if you had read Orwells 1984, you would know that Big Brother aint that stupid show on Channel 4. Also, had you read it, you would see that it is now passé. There are 4 million cameras watching you in London alone. The average person is caught on camera 400 times a day. What do most Brits say to this? "Well, if you haven't got anything to hide, what have you got to worry about?" Then couple that with the fact that from 1st January 2006 the British government have started a program to track every single vehicle journey in the country. Of which they will keep records of for 2 years. They have already convicted several people by triangulating their locations from their mobile phones. What do the sheeple of the UK say about this? Nothing, zip, nada. The country is a surveillance nightmare. British people don't know what liberty and freedom really is. None are so enslaved than those who falsly believe they are free.

Uk has 20% of the world's CCTV cameras. The example given on the TV show i saw was that there's more in basingstoke than the whole of new york city. (basingstoke's a pretty small town near where i lived) it really is like 1984.

CCTV, tracking cars to tax them, ID cards... this can't end well.

Wrong, it has climbed every single year since. The only country in the developed Western world with a violent crime rate less than the USA, is Switzerland, and EVERYONE has a gun there. We will never be disarmed. I own many guns and live in the mountains of Oregon where hunting and fishing are a way of life and everyone owns guns and everyone knows it and no one bothers anyone else. First of all, I'm living in a country where guns are difficult to obtain legally and cannot be used or worn in public. I agree with you that having the right to defend yourself with a gun is good and I wish I had that right here. But I don't believe there will ever be the day where the USA is being disarmed, I just don't think that could ever happen. But what makes you think it's more dangerous over here? Violent crime is much lower (even in the UK) compared to the US. Murders and shootings are still not something that dominate the daily news, they just don't happen daily. Also I wouldn't want to walk on the streets with a several thousand dollars cash in my pocket, I'd just be too scared being robbed or killed. But I'm not afraid doing this in most western European countries. However, I'm still against gun bans.

Not everywhere in the US has alot of crime. Mostly just the large citys. Where I live there is very little crime and the little that there is, is just the usual teenage stuff. I was in Australia for two weeks where guns are also banned and I could not believe the amount of crime there, every day on the news there they showed robberys at knife point and home invasions at gun point which proves the saying,"when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"

I hope I don't sound like a racist here, but the biggest reason underlying the violent crime rate difference that everyone knows about, but NEVER mentions, is the demographical differences between the countries. USA has a much higher proportion of Blacks than do other countries in Western Europe. Blacks commit a much, much higher percentage of violent crimes in the USA. They account for only 12% of the population, but commit over 50% of the murders. Also, non-white Hispanics (another 13% of population) likewise commit a higher rate of crime than do whites or Asians, although not anywhere as high as blacks. If you look at just the white and Asian violent crime numbers in the USA, they're not much different than Europe. Look at Japan for example - violent crime is very very low there. But if you look at the East Asians in the US, they also commit very little violent crime here. Everyone wants to blame guns....yes, that does make some difference (both good and bad actually), but the biggest source of the difference has to do with demographic differences. This is not a racist take here, it's just the truth that no one is courageous enough to take about because it's so politically correct.

I half agree. But, demographics really aren't the total picture. Thats a bit of a generalized argument you got going on there. Your stats are correct, but, there are several reasons why this happens, not purely race based. You mention the Japanese as being peace loving people. They are also total bootlickers. That one is a cultural difference so its a bad example. Japanese culture is all about appearances and what people think of you. They are obsessed with it. On the stats, you are totally wrong. Britain is the top place for violent crime. USA 14th out of 15 for developed nations. Been here 5 years, never been robbed, burglarized, shot, stabbed, or witness to any violent crime. I leave my front door unlocked here. Can you say the same?

When I lived in England I was victim to violent crime, numerous times, was burglarized twice, car broken into 3 times. Nothing like that happens where I live now. Why do you suppose that is? We are more civilised? Ha, not at all.

Well, firstly, I lived in England for 23 years. So I know just how it is over there. Secondly you are totally wrong about the stats with regard to violent crime. Out of the top 15 developed nations, Great Britain and Ireland are top of the league as far as violent crime goes, per capita. Australia being second (they had their guns grabbed too) The USA is ranked 14th out of 15, Switzerland being 15th. I have been here 5 years and have never been robbed, burglarized, had my car stolen, or even seen any violent crime. A burglary is front page news where I live.
