The flashlight hack is sure amazing, but i have one question: If you are going to paint the flashlight, why don't use some kind of bright or shining ink, cause, if u need a flashlight, it's because its dark isnt't it? So, what will u do if you drop it and it turns off...?

        Just my 2 cents.

Anyway, most of the flashlights are black, so I think i'm the wrong one in this point...

You can find the same flashlight at Home Depot. For the bulb, I bought a 6 C/D cell Krypton replacement Maglite bulb because the Radio Shack bulb won't work. The Maglite bulb works great, although I had to order it online at flash-lights.com. I also bought my batteries online at batteryjunction.com for $1 each plus shipping. Much better than buying Duracells or Energizers for $4 each. Great Flashlight!

$20.00 .That seems to be the way to go unless somebody can find a 9v flashlight bulb.

well, going from two AA cell batties 1.5 volts each in series=3 volts.

you took it to 9 volts.

has anyone ever experienced a wire malfunction or malfunction of any other sort due to increased voltage?

This actually works great--until you need to have the flashlight on for more than 1 or 2 minutes at a go. Then the plastic sleeve/threads holding the bulb begin to melt from the heat and the flashlight no longer works. Save your money and buy a real fiashlight, kids.

Having tried this I've found that the bulb burns so hot it will eventually melt the reflector. If kept on for any length of time.

The 272-1163 Krypton Lamp used in this video is rated for 6V. It will have a dramatically reduced operating life at 9V.

Operating this at 6V by using only 2 of the 3V batteries would be more sensible. The brightness would then be comparable to the SureFire, but it would be more reliable.

I first tried this with a 4.8 volt bulb and it burned out in about 15 min. Deffinately use the 7.2 volt from radioshack. The only thing is that the batteries are about 5 bucks a piece at Wal Mart. I found them online for about a buck a piece on ebay.

This lamp will not last very long. Visiting Dons Bulbs and Limitron, I learned that operating a lamp rated at 6V for 20 hours design life (the bulb that was used in the video), at 9V (the voltage stated in the video) will reduce its life to .043 (from Lumitrons website) of that 20 hours. Just long enough to shoot the video.

                                                                          • Prael Eh. by Prael, 1197941402 Report sent Spam Reply Thumbs Up Thumbs Down

I'll keep the E2e that's lasted me about 5 years now.

Yeah, 9v is brighter than 6v, but basically waterproof, body that won't crack the first time you drop it, properly focused beam, 2 stage switch (actually mine's the older twist/push), won't melt itself if left on, warranty...

If you wanna be cheap, it's easier to get one of the $20 Garmins at wal-mart which is also a hair brighter, I keep one of those in my glove box. Just be sure not to leave that one on too long either lol.

Still, all in all a pretty cool hack. I gave it a 4.
