After his abrupt departure from MSNBC’s Countdown, Keith Olbermann is making headlines again.
Media attention has temporarily moved from why he left, to what he will be doing next.
In an interview on ‘Good Morning America’ -- media critic Howie Kurtz says we haven’t seen the end of Olbermann.
“He’s gonna have to stay off the news--television news for some time. But, can he thrive without the platform and promotion that MSNBC gave him?”
“Well, it’s a great platform. But you know, when he had that suspension, 300,000 people signed an online petition asking him to stay on the air. That’s a pretty good base, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts an Internet channel or something like that.”
Olbermann supporters certainly don’t plan on him going too far either.
A blogger for the ‘Daily Kos’ has encouraged a movement to nominate Olbermann for Senate in a recent blog post.
And a Facebook page called “Draft Olbermann for Senate” has gained more than 2,000 members.
But one writer for the conservative blog Moonbattery is appalled at the notion Olbermann would be considered for the Senate seat in Connecticut.
“At first I laughed, assuming it was a sick joke. Then a cold chill ran down my spine. What if this is for real? Nothing is too preposterous to be possible, in a country where obnoxious ultra-left comedian Al Franken is already in the Senate...”
But while others speculate where he’s headed - Olbermann’s successor isn’t forgetting what he’s done. On MSNBC - Lawrence O’Donnell - paid a lengthy tribute to the former host’s contributions.
“Year in and year out. For eight years. I have no idea how he did it. ... No one knew it could be done before he did it. And in doing it, he took MSNBC to new heights.”
So far, Olbermann has not publicly commented on the Facebook group or on Twitter.
