  • How is it done... I'll tell you.. is VER...

I guess most of you kow how most stunts are made in movies.. a GREEN SCREEN...

    This shot is taken twice...

One with the Laptop displaying a green background....

Second with no Laptop at all... (ofcource with the camera in the same exact location.)

What they do is they edit the 2 movies & mix them... by removing the green area in the first clip and replacing it with the same are in the second clip. (Editing programs are all over the net.. you just need a webcam & a Colored sheet "Green is not the only color")

and here you are.. a PC with a transperant background...

  • OMG

I can't believe how many people in here are stupid... all of those who believe it's a camera behind the laptop is an idiot... Because if you have a camera thats filming the wall of whatever that thing behind the laptop is... than the picture is also suppost to move left side with the laptop.. but the background doesn't even move.. so it's definitely chromakey or green screen..i guess some people have to get some education in here..

  • DUH!

I've done the same thing at work - take a picture of what's behind your flatscreen or laptop, stand and look at the monitor from the same angle and it looks like it's transparent. kinda neat actually :)

  • apologies

am i annoying anyone with the repetitive posting? if so i apologise, I'm just very opinionated :P plus i couldn't make up my mind whether it was green screen or a camera. i'm almost certain its green screen (chromakey) now btw.

  • Who Cares?

Why does everybody have to fight over everything. Everybody has there own opinion. Who cares what the other guy thinks? I think it would really cool if the screen was transparent but I don't know the truth.

  • It's Film Editing 101

SoreLoser is right: It's just a very basic green screening technique.

There are two shots, that are taken without moving the camera or changing the frame at all. First you film the scene with nothing in it but the background. Then you film it again with the guy moving the laptop around. The laptop will have a desktop picture / wallpaper that is a solid bright green colour. You then tell the computer (via Final Cut Pro, or whatnot) during editing to replace everything that is the bright green colour in the second shot with footage from the first shot when the laptop wasn't there.

  • this is not a HUD/transparent screen!!!

and anyone who thinks it is is a moron! watch again... notice that the image is brighter and more blue than the background? also, whatch the edges of the screen as it is moved. the images don't quite match up. there is also a loss of image quality on the screen, there is pixelation and aliasing. (this also rules out the green screen theory as that would also use the same image for both, although i thought it was that at first)

    • ...

although i suppose the brightness of the onscreen image could be put down to the backlight if indeed it was green-screen

    • ... again (sorry.. got too much to say;)...

and that suggestion that the desktop has been set to a uniform colour is very sensible, as I'm unaware of a way to use a real time image as the desktop in Mac or PC. I've changed my mind i think it is chromakey

  • omg its so simple

  • It's called Chromakey

Anyone who works in TV will know how this works. It's a process called 'chromakey' and the giveaway is that the whole thing is a static image.

All that happens is that you line up this shot and take a clean shot of it without the computer in frame. The computer has a single colour on the screen background (could be blue or green) and the device that merges the pictures replaces anything of that exact colour frequency with the same section of the clean shot. That's why he can move it around. And that's why he can pull up a window on the monitor, because anything covering up the key colour shows up on top.

If you want to move the main image though you then have to track those movements, reproducing them exactly on the overlay image, and the whole thing becomes hugely more complicated.

I suspect this guy probably had the video and the static image to overlay and merged them in a post production process to create this movie.

    Got it?

Notice that the perspective of the shot does not change (the camera doesn't move).

First adjust your lap tippy toppy's desktop to have a GREEN background.
Then shoot some footy of your location without the laptizzy in the shot.
Next, without moving the camera put your laptizmond into the shot.
Now dump both sets of footy to your comp ositing program of choice.
Overlay both in a timeline with your Laptonic footy on top
Use the keying feature of your compositor to "knock the green the f*ck out"
export for web, upload, and watch the hilarity ensue on a browser on your electronic lapdog!

  • No cameraI've wa

I watched this several times and it is a not a camera. For one thing, he brings up a computer window in the middle of the image. Transparent and heads-up displays have been around for quite a while, so why would some on go to the trouble of faking something easily available.

My question would be, "Why bother with either?"

Its called heads-up display (HUD) technology. Its been around for a long time.

  • Sorry but...

you guys are all wrong. There is a flat camera built into the back of the laptop screen that is angled slightly off to create the perfect effect. The computer is set on a program that uses a full screen of the video that it plays in real-time like your typical camcorder.

    • .

Add a little to my reply: there is no way you can adjust the picture angle that showed on the screen. Note the guy moving the laptop not only left and right, but also changes its angle relative to camera that filmed it

Actualy you are wrong. These transparent displays were around atleast few month now (atleast I've heard about them a long time ago).

  • and more...

If the video had shown the persons HAND or any other object moving in the room and into the back of the screen THAN it would have been more credible as a seethough screen.

    happy new year everyone!

  • This is Camera Trick

the computer screen background is GREEN like they use in special effects shooting and its easy to merge the computer video with a video of the same scene WITH NO COMPUTER so the two togeather (remember the GREEN in the first shot is replaced by the second shot) show AS IF you can see through the computer.
