8 to 10 megatons but the "geniuses" at los alomos lab forgot a crutial part of the reaction. When the new type of nuke fuel was used(normal was running low) every atom gave of an extra nuetron, running into more atoms than normal, faster than normal. Al the the islands around the test had to be evacuated but a jap fishing boat still got covered in snow. It wasn't the kind that you play in.

You realize that all our bombs don't have the power that Mount St. Helens erupted with put together. Also for the amount of power they have they get less ash into he upper atmosphere. That eruption didn’t cause an ice age so I really don’t see nukes doing it.
Now if yellow stone erupts that would cause an ice age. The earth would still be livable though. Might not be able to support 6 billion as easily but could easily still support 3 billion. The rest would be taken care of in the wars that happened as recourses slowly decreased.
Nuclear winter is one of those things someone came up with around the duck and cover time. The only reason it is still around is that it sounds good in movies.
You need to get some education.
The safest place to be in a nuclear expolsion is right in the centre, considering u survive the explosion. lol
