As part of the Thames Festival at the Tate Modern Gallery
Midday to 9:30pm

For the second consecutive year River Tango takes London by storm, to confirm its reputation as the biggest tango open-air event in the UK of all times. As part of the multi-thematic Thames Festival, River Tango will be staged at the very doorstep of the Tate Modern Gallery as a two-day celebration with a genuine Argentine vibe. It will be a unique opportunity for Londoners and visitors alike to explore contemporary expressions of tango and milonga in London's vibrant South Bank and right by the Millennium Bridge.

Tango, the renowned Argentine music genre that has achieved international reputation, has inspired people worldwide to establish tango schools and clubs. The number of tango aficionados keeps growing steadily in the most remote areas of the globe, and London is no exception to this trend.

River Tango is a unique opportunity to get an insight into London's lively tango scene, with some of the best local tango dancers performing on a 'tablado' -- a specially designed wooden dance floor with Tate Modern as a unique backdrop.

Later, as the sun goes down, an authentic Argentine folk band will take the southern passion closer to more traditional sounds and organic rhythms and finally, to put a memorable end to the evening, River Tango will present the fresh sounds of contemporary Argentine and Latin Pop Music played by renowned London-based DJ Hernan Atencio.

The annual Thames Festival is a spectacular FREE open-air celebration of London and its river, with an amazing weekend programme of events that transforms the river, parks and open spaces between Westminster and Tower Bridge into a display of artistic expressions from all over the world. Launched in 1997, Thames Festival is now a highlight of London's cultural calendar attracting more than 665.000 people in the last 2006 edition.
