Poncho, my 30 year old double yellow headed amazon, uses one of his feathers to help scratch his head! The new feathers that are constantly growing in cause the itch, which I usually help him with but I am not always available. He does NOT have fleas, mites, or a fungal infection. All parrots love having their heads More»

  • smart sunconure

We have a sun conure; never thought parrots were problem solvers til we got ziggy. He is 8 years old now. Not only can he easily unlock his "parrot proof cage" but has shown other amazing abilities. His food bowls are in the bottom of a large cage. We give him 2 liter bottle caps for play. He takes the caps, rakes seed into them

    • and then..

i meant to finish with (so continued from the last comment)

our gift of humanity, this parrot shows, must then be something more than simply building tools- something impossible like imagination. i think it is feasable that any animal could build a computer if it knew how, but to actually create one is a different story

      • Holy crap...

My bird is still in the stages of running around in it's own crap.

I can only hope one day he'll be as smart as this.

Although one of my birds, if you leave the key in the lock, will open the padlock, throw it off, and open the spring-locked door, come upstairs, and bother us until we give him food :P

                • Wow

Great video! It really demonstrates how smart and resourceful birds can be. Seems like each time he got near the ears, he flinches a little... and so did I. I was so afraid he was going to poke himself in the brain with that quill. Haha!

Do you have any more videos of him?

                      • thats great!

thanks for sharing and letting us know more about your bird. i wouldnt know if this has happened before, but im sure it has; parrots are very smart.

maybe someone could post some of those grey parrots that can do math and recognize things? i remember seeing some scientists seeing just how smart they were, they quizzed them and gave them all sorts of test

                        yay!

                        • Sorry but I'm not impressed.

Parrots and budgies have been doing far more than scratching thier heads for years.
