The parachute does not open!
The intructor should have provided the kid with a rig fitted with a Cyprus... it's a piece of equipment that deploys the chute automatically if not pulled before a certain altitude. It pretty much standard practice to provide them for your first few solo jumps.
By PsychoSam 1138789821 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit's standard practice to have one every single time you jump. there is very, very few instances that would call for it's disengagement.
By disegae 1188194004 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTHE ONLY GOOD THING IS THAT HE DIDNT FEEL ANYTHING.....HOW HORRIBLE MAN

By hotrod_cid 1176013426 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWould you feel anything at all? I really think you quite litterally splat.. makes me shudder and yeah falling to my death is one of my nightmares too.
By bennors 1138681480 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAs he probably passed out on the way down ( fear / shock / speed / oxygen ).
That's what I'd hope anyhow. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes, poor kid.
They say most people pass out from fear before hitting the ground. Even those who have survived a fall usually state they were out before they reached the ground.
By socrfan 1139003920 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove17 sec free fall?Whats that?a jump over 700-800 meter?
By zz-zonda-zz 1252552106 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI remember this incident. It was the kids 1st freefall, not his 1st jump. A cypress or FXC AAD would have saved his life. The Cypress outomatically fires your reserve at -600ft, the FXC at 1200ft. His parents is 100% to blame. In SAfrica you cannot jump until age 16. Louis
By loelie 1157455050 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe guy was 35 years old. The jumpmasters are 100% to blame, if he didn't know how to pull his reserve handle, and the rig wasn't fitted with a working AAD

By pickup 1146008641 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSome people in bombers have fallen similar distances like that and lived.
By Mastersage 1145739682 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI have seen 2 different interviews with people that had survived accidents like that. I doubt he surrvived because his chute never even deployed to act as a streamer.
By Still_in_Iraq 1145693668 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenot only the parents also the authorities who neglected should also be sent to prison
By vins007 1145693299 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhy the hell is this the parents' fault? don't you think they have been punished enough by losing their son?
By radoka 1207422747 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei bet he wasnt ready to jump, but well, i rather die that way than being buried alive, thats my worse nightmare!!
By Nicko02ra 1145031913 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI remember when this happened. Like 10 years ago.
The parachute was Ok. The kid got too afraid to open it. The ones watching him are his parents and little brother.
I think the kid's parents went to jail for this. They claimed the kid insisted so much they allowed it. How dumb can a parent be?
bullshit!

By cyberland 1185356975 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou are actually mentally abnormal, i hope this does not happen to any of your relatives. ( by the way the other comment that i posted was for you)
By hotrod_cid 1176013591 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethat was a static line jump, which means the canopy(it aint a chute,a chute is something you thow S**t down !) is attatched to the plane and automaticly deploys when you jump out. this is normally done at 2500 - 3500 ft, a cypress is usually set to go off around 1500 ft ,i doubt if you would build up enough speed at that altitude for the cypress to activate, thats why they dont use them for parachute jumps, and only for skydives.
By thumper-pertwang 1146094419 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removecypress doesn't arm until 1000 ft and depending on a model it goes off on either 1500ft or 750ft. and it activates on over 75 mph, but on the video it looks like he was well above terminal.
