These sulfate-free shampoos, conditioners and skincare products have worked great for our hair and body. After you use them you can feel the difference, knowing that it's actually free of sulfates, and preservatives. The smell is very light and subtle. An important fact to consider: did you know that several big and well known companies have formaldehyde in their ingredients list? And it's often at higher rates than the ones recommended by the FDA, especially on kids products. A quick research on formaldehyde brings you to the National Cancer Instutute showing that research studies of workers exposed to formaldehyde have suggested an association between formaldehyde exposure and several cancers, including nasopharyngeal cancer and leukemia. Here's the study that shows you the potential dangers of this chemical: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/formaldehyde Is this really something you want around your bathroom and around your kids? Don't think so darling!
Now onto the fun stuff: one of Beecology's founders, David Rzepka, tells the story of how it all started:
"About six years ago I agreed to let a co-worker put a beehive on my family farm. I didn't plan to be responsible for it, but when life events kept him from tending to it, I became a beekeeper. I found bee science and culture fascinating, and I soon began researching bees and attending workshops at The Ohio State University agricultural campus. Beyond enjoying the science, I found that tending the bees gave me time to reflect. I also came to realize how connected the bees' world is to ours - any changes in our environment affect their environment as well. I began to think about the foods we eat, the chemicals we use, and the impact these factors have on bees and on us. That's when the idea hit me: I wanted to make natural skincare and hair products using honey, beeswax, and other ingredients that are good for us and our world.
This is the philosophy behind Beecology. Today my family and I produce a full line of natural products - lip balm, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion - that help our customers keep their skin and hair healthy the natural way."
Lastly, in addition to drawing from the world to make our natural skincare and hair products, they give back through their own charitable arm, SweetYear.org. How could you not love them?
But...why is this so important? You might not know that bees are dying off worldwide and they’re such an important element to our environment, bees are responsible for 90% of the pollinating of the plants we grow.
A campaign by Avaaz explains the issue in more details:
Did you know that bees are dying off worldwide and our entire food chain is in peril? Scientists blame toxic pesticides and four European governments have already banned them. Bees are vital to life on earth — every year pollinating plants and crops with an estimated $40bn value, over one third of the food supply in many countries. Without immediate action to save bees many of our favourite fruits, vegetables, and nuts could vanish from our shelves.
And then what will we do? Grow more GMO's and make matters even worse? We hope not. Sign the petition here: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/save_the_bees/
And make sure to support great companies that are helping not only make a safe product but are also helping such a fragile insect that has such a huge impact in our life. Enjoy the sulfate free shampoos and conditioners by Beecology.
