You're right up to a point and some people will think it's a great idea, don't get me wrong as far as the effect goes I think it looks great, a nice bit of software,
the only problem is the toon world is full of options the live world cannot recreate, you can do anything your imagination desires, You might find a lot of failed animation buffs who can't make cartoons and will resort to live pieces that you turn into animation for them, the result will be a lot of half baked ideas acted out by a load of wannabe actors with no acting skills and no plot, you guys turn it into a nice looking piece of animation and we all end up suffering it...

I had written a longer reply to this, but metacafe seems to have eaten it. In brief, I expect some people to apply this capability creatively and well, most not, but that's true of any artistic tool in any medium. If you focus on the better works to be emerging, I think they will more than compensate for the bad.

  • Right???

So a movie company can put all the expence into filming a live sequence with actors, sets, film rigs, lighting, etc etc etc spending millions on films like spiderman so you can turn it into a cartoon??? good luck with that fella... and if you get a backer let me know, I have a great idea for a disposable car made out of rice paper :)

Some people think this looks cooler than the original movie, but that's taste, and I won't argue it. If you had a video, I could make you look like a cartoon too. The main point is that if it can be done here, it can be done for any video, so I'm offering people more options than they had before.

The intent of animation is to manifest visually the creator's imagination when live action motion pictures cannot feasibly do so. The process is a step backward just as the idiocy of making cartoons into live action movies is. Spidey and Dick Tracy were great comics, but sucked as live action movies.

The line of what live action pictures cannot be feasibly be made to do or look like is disappearing with improved CGI, so where does that leave your point about the intent of animation? This is about a kind of stylization that more people will have the option of using, because its creation no longer needs to be labor-intensive.
