It's amazing how many people don't know why the US is in Iraq! The US has been at war with Iraq since 1991 when they invaded an ally of the US....Kuwait, to expand Iraq. The US came to Kuwait's defense and chased the Republican Guard back into southern Iraq when Saddam "surrendered" by signing a resolution agreeing to certain terms.....such as letting UN inspecters search for weapons. After giving Saddam over 20 opportunities to uphold his side of the agreement, the US gave him one last deadline in 2003 to cooperate with the UN and Saddam pretty much said he will never comply with the resolution he signed. Additionally, during the 10-yr cease-fire, Iraqi forces fired on US planes hundreds of times. The problem is that the US/UN should have went back into Iraq after the 1st time Saddam didn't comply with his surrender agreement.

Then the liberal media will blame Pres. Bush for that too. The media can have it both ways. Go figure.

They were contractors and the route they were on was from the Baghdad airport to the Green Zone. This is the most dangerous route in Baghdad as anyone who flies into Baghdad flies to the Airport and then has to convoy over to the Green Zone.

With me being a contractor I guess I am a bit biased when I read comments such as yours and I tend to get a little pissed. Its not your fault you're ignorant on such subjects as contract work. Its easy to be so critical when you can sit at home and read about stuff and watch tv and feel you can make an informed decision.

Contractors such as these put there lives in danger on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are over here on our own free will. Some of us for money and some, such as myself, to support our country. Sometimes the money is good sometimes not so good. The point is, we make sacrifices to be over here too and often times face the same dangers as our troops.

Before you continue to be so judgmental while sitting there on your couch in your living room drinking your hot chocolate, put yourself in a contractors shoes. Take away your couch, your hot chocolate, and picture yourself typing this message in a tent in the middle of Iraq with mortars coming in at any given time. Would you do what we do? Contractors are not being "Babysitted" by the Army. They actually are disliked by the Army because anything that the contractors do (despite country of origin) is reflected upon the armed forces. Iraq is not a war on terror. Bush is just using this as an excuse to go to Iraq. And if you were old enough to drive, you would know that gas isnt cheap. Also, if you knew anything about oil industry, individual countries dont affect the price of oil. The price of oil is affected by OPEC. For example, with the death of Zarqawi, oil may drop in price a little. But now with Iran and its nukes, the price of oil will sky rocket.

Contractors dont bring in oil. They are mainly protection agencies. i am good friends with a contractor in Iraq right now. He just got finished with training the body guard of Afghanistan's president.

1st of all, excuse me for generalizing and not being specfic, I know who the Germans where fighting and where and when we dropped the 1st atomic bomb in Hiroshima the Japanese were not defeated and still engaging in war in China, Burma, HongKong and all we did up to that point was kick there butts out of the South Pacific, Japan was still very much involved in the war, if they were defeated and defenseless as you say, perhaps they should had surrendered when they had the chance before we dropped the bomb, also its a fact if we had not dropped those bombs and did a full scale invasion of Japan instead, many more lives would have been lost, on both sides, most being those of the Japanese people, it put a quick end to something that could had carried on much longer, WW2 went on for 2 years before Japan got us involved, also in fact U.S.A was the last country to get involved during the WW2 conflict, I would say we were not in any picticular hurry to show off are muscle or we would have done so much sooner and your welcome for my feed back.

As for your questions, let's answer them one at a time: If Haiti were to overthrow the U.S., and I, as a patriotic citizen, wanted to reestablish the rule of my own people over the nation then you bet I would fight. There is a fundamental flaw (or so I see it) in your hypothetical: we have not overthrown the government of any other nation and replaced it with our own. You may debate this, but even the newly elected government of Iraq is not really pro-U.S. and does not have OUR best interest in mind- they have their own.

As for the insurgent/ America as terrorist argument is concerned, I am not interested in comparing definitions or semantics. Do you remember that the Iraqi army was the largest and most powerful in the Middle East prior to the U.S. invasion? How long did it take the U.S. military to take the country? How many casulaties were there during conventional combat? I'll answer that one- hardly any. Where did all of the Saddam loyalists go? They never left, the took off their military uniforms and began to hide amongst the more benign population and in their mosques. They purposefully risk the lives of "innocent civilians" by doing so.

When these cowards fire upon American, Iraqi, British, Australian, and Polish troops and then hide in Mosques then they have no footing to claim that Americans are terrorists. I know that this is based on Western modes of military conduct, but we are a Western nation and have every right to place parameters on what is right and wrong. It really matters very little what other nations think. They do not have the same at stake that we do and therefore cannot come to a suitable conclusion.

in world war 1, ´the USA, england and france formed what we today call Iran,Iraq etc. these countries were before the great osmanian reich (not shure about that) but after the war, which they lost. the 3 of you took all there recources (oil. etc). you even changed Iran into a republic. but there were som people who didint want this to happend so they decided to nationalise the oil. there primeminister wanted to have their oil for themselves. so what does the USA do in a situation like this??....the sam thing youve always DONE, you scared away this "rebelian" primeminister and replaced him with a new one..the strange thing is that he wanted to let the USA use the oilsources that they took after the war.

With all due respect , what is the United Nations purpose? Peacekeepers , correct. They took a vote, nearly every country that matters voted on the terms Saddam had to meet, when to do it by, and what would happen if he did'nt. I just want to say Thank you for saying what you did. You stuck up for my husband as well..who is in Iraq for the second time. This stuff is really going on over there and people need to wake up and realize what our soldiers are going through day in and day out. My husband, who had to stay on base when his convoy went out, would have been killed if he was told he had to go. The truck he was supposed to be in and ride passenger in hit an IED. And the soldier on the passenger side died. The driver was seriously injured, who was a close friend to my husband.

Despite your many erred assertions Moony, I will take a second to correct your fallacious inference about the lack of resources in the United States. I will begin by questioning your sources. How would you know whether or not we have resources? Have you ever been 200-300 miles past the border? Contrary to what you have stated, our lumber products are not primarily from Canada. We use our own lumber- which, if you've been to the Southeastern US will know that there still an abundance- and we also have a trade agreement with Chile to import manufactured lumber such as plywood, box beams, and engineered I-beams. In short, you're wrong.

Regarding Canadian socialized healthcare, you must know that there are more Canadians- those who actually work and have money to do so- that come to the States to get quality healthcare than you hear about there. Why? Your state-run healthcare system is failing to meet the needs of those who support it. If you need any operation you are required to wait in line, so to speak, until you can be seen. I have a cousin in Calgary who had to wait for three weeks to be seen when he had a kidney stone. By the time he was allowed to go to the hospital he had already passed the stone- without any pain killers. I could go on about your socialized healthcare, but I think that my point has been made. Universal, socialized healthcare is NOT free, your tax dollars pay for it, and your being taxed to death as a result of the inherent costs. Your waiting peroid for care is completely ridiculous. And, in short, the service you get in Canada pales in comparison to the service you get in the States.

The statement i made was referring to your oil...but as i did type lumber. i was referring to canaidan softwood which american imports say..i'll give a 2004 figures 14, 182,473,208 usd now that only 5.5% of total imports from Canada alone this also wouldn't include say pulp and paper which is 9,855,289 usd. this isnfo is found on any trades place between these two countries e.g. tse. i mean i'm not going to debate wether or not your running out just like the misleading info that has recycling happening these days however i can say that over 100 yrs canada still has the same amount of lumber even more so as we did in say the 1920's and as for your mentioning chile. well lets look at the figures of imports --WOOD 17,814 (2000) 14,437 (2001) 8,442 (2002) 7,076 (2003) 8,094 (2004) it appears your imports of lumber have decrease from chile drastically and comparing 14,182,473,208 usd importing from canada to 8,094usd imported from chile is just wrong..so yes indeed i am right and tse has the facts on that one.oh btw chile top export to the us is NUCLEAR REACTORS ..as for the oil i noticed you never mentioned anything on it why was that?
Healthcare..well i will say if i had the money i would rather be in france then us or canada. however that's not wha the idea was it was about the us paying for healthcare. not that it's better then the canadians. you go on about waitign times well i could say the same about a freind's sister-in-law who had a neurological condition that kept her in severe pain and it took two years, TWO YEARS, for her to get an operation in your wonderful, supposedly no-waiting, system.i mean you could have said your system is that of france's. Any American who's spent time in Western Europe, Canada, or Australia, knows different. i'm pretty sure that this is dave replying so you should know that i have been 200-300 miles into us. now yes it's true that long waiting times are the main, and in many cases, the only reason some Canadians say they would be willing to pay for treatments outside of the public health care system but like anysystem there are always ongoing imporvements hence a $15-million report, and Ottawa will go a long way towards satisfying Canadians' concerns about medicare.

It is good to know you actually read the email; however, I'll have to take your word for it in doubting that you actually knew what the word meant and didn't just look it up in a dictionary. As for trying to exploit that one mistake and use that against the remaining points of contention - that is a ploy of a simpleton. I trust that you aren't one and will therefore ignore the incendiary remarks that followed. As for using "big words" as a means of denigrating those who don't use the vocabulary at their disposal, I would have to disagree. People should use more descriptive and explanatory words. This allows for a more interesting and fulfilling dialogue between people. Also, the word "demagoguery" is, as you hopefully know, derived from two Greek words: demos- note the "O"- which means people, and "agogos" which means to lead. Now, there were several errors in spelling, grammar, and syntax in your response. With that in mind I'm sure you wouldn't imply that my small mistake calls into question my intellect and capacity for rational thought. In order to establish my rapport and expertise you should know a bit more about me- I am a graduate student at Rice University- do a quick google to learn a bit more- and have travelled extensively throughout the Western hemisphere. In my travels I have learned two languages well, and two others in part. I also learned that the U.S. has the greatest positive affect on foreign nations given that we contribute the most, both monetarily and labor wise. Our military is what other nations call upon to help them defeat their enemies and/or restore order to their nation during civil wars. Remember Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria, and Haiti just to name a few places. These nations begged the United States to intervene militarily to hep them establish a sense of normalcy within their borders. If the U.S. were so evil, then why would these nations ask for help at all? If all we wanted was oil, why did we go to Europe in the 1910-20's and again in the 40's, Korea in the 1950's and Vietnam in the 1960's. These countries called upon the U.S. to flex its military prowess and economic wealth in order to help them. Again, there was no oil and little in the way of economic benefits, so why did we go and spend billions? If you would like to continue with a dialectic then I would be happy to participate. If you are a simpleton and a racist bigot then and have no desire to converse like an adult then I have no interest in wasting my time responding. This is getting much too long. I'll make the rest as terse as possible.

I have not strayed from the original topic. If you remember, or check the first of the thread, you'll notice that you began attacking any pro-American and/or patriotic statements that were made. You also questioned the intellect of those who were making those posts, that is where I came in. I know full well that not all those who post are as articulate as others so I used my voice to bolster the positive sentiment of my fellow patriots. I have read far too many racist, anti-American, anti-Semitic statements on this and other sites to keep my hands still. I felt that I had to write to counter the wave of hatred- and I do it without using expletives, hyperboles, demagoguery, and other such methods of persuasion. I appreciate the opinions of others so long as those who make them show respect to those who are intended to receive. This has not been the case here. Like I mentioned in the other post, you and many others have openly attacked pro-American posters by using expletives, questioning the intellect, and by questioning the overall integrity of those who support the U.S. That is where I feel it necessary to question the attackers' motives and their facts. If you have a retort then by all means offer it. If you are no longer interested in continuing the dialogue then it was nice sharing opinions with you.

Let's jump into answering your last post. Like I said, I appreciate your responses to my opinions, observations, and facts. I do value a dialectic since they rarely take place, and even more rarely do they occur between two mature adults. Not that my opinion of you really matters, but given the content of your comments and posts on this particular thread I can confidently assert (Note the times that your blatantly racist and bigoted comments have been removed) that you do not strive for knowledge but instead abuse and belittle others. With that said, I would be curious to know what makes you believe that which you write.

I don't need to question my own intellect since I'm using it to write this and previous responses. I gave you a glimpse of my credentials (expertise) which you should, as an academic, know are required to give validity to your argument. This is not pretention- it's protocol. I'm also happy to hear that you have attended several universities which undoubtedly have contributed to your educational goals. However, not all universities are created equal. I know that this isn't politically correct but some universities ARE better than others. As for the other comments about laziness in typing and such, that doesn't really matter. I question your facts and your logic.
