He was 73 when he tried that stunt in 1978. The family is still performing and did about 20 performances just last year. They are also the Current Record Holders of the 8 PERSON PYRAMID in the 2003 Guinness Book of World Records.

I was 10 at the time, my father took me to see this. I was about 30 feet away from where he hit, the rush of people prevented me from seeing the actual impact but i did hear it. I'll never forget that sound. Some call him stupid but he died doing what he loved and not many of us will go that way. R.I.P.

him and his family were famous for doing stunts like this, apparently they all died doing this at some point in their lives if I recall correctly as they all insisted on using absolutly no safety precautions during their careers.
