My Mistake.
The rider was Gary Wells. He did survive and recover but was pretty broken up. I was right about the show Thats Incredible.

Wasnt this when Evil Knievel tried to jump the fountain at Caesars Palace on 31.12.1967? Sure looked like it...
(he did survive, but received a crushed pelvis and femur, fractures to his hip, wrist and both ankles and a concussion that kept him in a coma for 29 days, according to wikipedia)
