Often having suffered bullying and prejudice because of her race and physical disability, Nettie grows all the stronger and more determined, never letting obstacles stand in her way. “If I can’t accomplish a task one way, I’ll figure out another way to get it done,” is her motto, which comes in handy as she cares for eight Jewish refugee children during the war. She knows she can always count on the mystical signs she receives to guide her in the right direction.

But will these supernatural signs help Nettie solve the mystery of the statues that suddenly appear in her backyard, or reveal the reason for her strange inherited gift?
