Factors to Consider When Buying a Piano - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.
There so many factors, I am going to try to limit it as much as I can. Girls, I have a digital keyboard here. These are very good for, let's say, you live in a tiny apartment, and you have neighbors, and you just love to play and you wanna, you know, your band comes over. You have to, you know, play those chords you have to.. whatever. You just want to experiment, you can put the headphones on. There is no maintenance with this kind of instrument.
If you wanna buy an acoustic piano then you have to be careful about the differences in, first of all where you place it the temperature effects it, its wood after all much of it, so, It expands, contracts. You cannot really keep it by a window, the air conditional cannot be blowing on it because it is going to be ruined and you have to... There is a lot of maintenance in terms of having it. Your tuner come out, your technician, the strings were out. But when you are going to buy that piano and I would say the longer the strings, whether its up-right or this way, the more beautiful of a sound you might get.
But in order to check, I would just play one note... and use you ear and see how long you can still hear that note, because some pianos you strike a note, does not matter how hard. When I say hard I really mean fast because it is physics, it is how fast you press that note that makes the volume. So that is going to tell you, is that if it dies right away it is not going to be much of a piano, but if you can keep hearing it, that note and you listen really closely, put you head in there, your ear in there, and count. That will help you in, you know, determining, you know, what is a good piano, or not.
