Self-Defense Workout: Bump Escape - part of the women's fitness video series by GeoBeats.

Lets take a look at the bump escape from a bear hug with arms trapped from behind, we also call it the Superman Escape, sometimes, from a bear hug. A very effective technique. It is a scary thing to be grabbed from behind, especially when your arms are trapped. So, it is important to know how to escape this technique. So, from here, as I come to grab Nicole around the arms, her arms are trapped, so her options are a little bit limited. So, from here she is going to bump, shooting her weight back and her arms forward. This is going to help for me to release the grip. Now from here she is going to come up with her elbow, covering her neck with her left arm, come up to capture my chin here with her elbow strike. As she does that, she slightly turns her body here so she can get a better angle on the elbow.
So again, I grab, she bumps, arm comes up, and catches the chin. Now, you see from the side, here, as I come in and grab, she bumps, arm goes up and strikes there. Very effective strike. When practicing this with a partner, it has to be done very slowly, obviously, because it can be very dangerous. You can do it on your own as well. So, you see Nicole practicing on her own. Bump, elbow up, and strike. And again, bump, elbow up, and strike. Good. Depending on the speed of the motion, obviously, you can do… It is great for cardio, great for working muscle in your shoulders and your hips, really your entire body. And obviously doing both sides to work your body equally for both sides, and very, very effective.

Even if you do not… Even if I am here, and she goes to bump, and she cannot quite break my grip, at least my arms are up high. She can still slip underneath and escape, or at least, not be in such a terrible position as she was at the beginning of the engagement. So, there it is, the bump escape into an elbow, great for escaping from a bear hug.
