      when the lights go out, we can still see them because the camera being used pickes up on infa red, there will be an infared source somewhere in the room, it is a light source that our eyes cannot pick up, the way our eyes work is by picking up the light being reflected from objects, we cannot see infared but it works in the same way as normal light, cameras that see infared are used, so they pick out definition in the infared that is reflected back from the objects, because it works in the same way as normal light there will be shadows where the persons body is blocking the infared from hitting the wall behind them, so the room remains pitch black but there are shadows visible through the infared camera.
