Disc-read errors? Only CD works on your Xbox? Even new DVD can't be recognized? Then you might need to change the laser of your Xbox. After a few years of normal use it is not uncommon that the laser break before the others parts. If you don't like tweeking alot, then you may buy a new dvd reader to replace the old one and it will be way simpler, but also more expensive. You can find lasers lens for 20$ or less on ebay, but be sure to buy the right model.
