Rajiv Gandhi had his dream of making India a self-sufficient, self-reliant, strong, prosperous and modern nation. He understood well that technology could lift India out of its poverty and backwardness. Therefore, he wanted to introduce and induct the latest and the most sophisticated technology into Indian industry, trade and commerce, and also administration and agriculture. Truly, Rajiv Gandhi would be remembered for creating lakhs of jobs for unemployed educated Indian youths by ushering in the computer age in India.
On the agricultural front, he knew well that the growth and development of agriculture could make the life of seventy percent of Indians happier, if proper care and attention paid to this sector. He wanted to modernize Indian agriculture. Besides providing better implements and tools, he initiated land reforms to benefit the farmers.
